Jeong Soon-won expressed deep affection for the work and character through his feelings about the ending of “Resident Playbook.”
Jeong Soon-won revealed his thoughts, saying on the 19th through his agency, “There is some regret about the ending, but the joy is greater. Our precious ‘Resident Playbook’ faced a bit more labor pains than planned before coming into the world, and I am happy that it was born healthy and received much attention and love.”
He added, “I hope this work can provide empathy and comfort to those who are a bit clumsy, upset by mistakes, and need courage just like the story in the drama, while also giving pause for consideration to those who have walked ahead. I really came to love the characters in this drama. I hope these characters live diligently and return in a good way. Just like the drama’s OST, ‘When the day comes at the end of longing, I will run to you!’”
Jeong Soon-won took on the role of ‘Gu Seung-won,’ a warm and mature husband archetype, and maintained the core of the story with his calm yet profound acting.
The character portrayed by Jeong Soon-won, ‘Gu Seung-won,’ is a researcher from an IT company, the brother of Gu Do-won (played by Jeong Joon-won), and the brother-in-law of Oh Yi-young (played by Go Youn-jung). He is a character that conveys deep affection for his wife and family and exudes a pure and cheerful charm, leaving behind the memorable line, “Love is unconditional reciprocity.”
In particular, he silently supported his wife, who was struggling with repeated failures of in vitro procedures and psychological burdens, demonstrating the traits of a caring husband who offers unconditional respect and support. His tendency to prioritize his wife’s feelings over his own and to shift the atmosphere with his always bright expression and unique sense of humor resonated deeply with viewers while providing warm comfort.
Additionally, in the final episode, he provided great laughter to viewers with his cluelessness about the relationship between his brother Gu Do-won and sister-in-law Oh Yi-young, not noticing even as they held hands—a sweet naiveté that enhanced his pure charm.
Meanwhile, ‘Resident Playbook’ concluded with a warm afterglow, setting a new record for its highest viewership.
