'Anytime, Resident Playbook' rookie Han Ye-ji expressed her heartfelt thoughts.
tvN's weekend drama 'Resident Playbook' (created by Shin Won-ho and Lee Woo-jung, directed by Lee Min-soo, written by Kim Song-hee, planned by CJ ENM Studios, produced by Egg is Coming) concluded yesterday (18th), and Han Ye-ji, who proved her dazzling potential as the resident 'Kim Sa-bi,' an 'theoretical maximum level super AI,' expressed her thoughts on the show's conclusion.
Han Ye-ji vividly portrayed Kim Sa-bi, who lacks social skills but grows with a serious attitude, earning praise for her remarkably stable performance as a first-time debut. Through the growth narrative of Kim Sa-bi, who, while solely focused on theory and revealing the 'T' nature, experiences patients' perspectives and learns from seniors and professors, Han Ye-ji delicately depicted Kim Sa-bi, breathing life into the character.
Additionally, she showcased unexpected dancing skills in the karaoke scene where Kim Sa-bi's 'true devotion' unfolded, drawing attention with her unique charm. She also sparked over-immersion while developing a subtle tension with her colleague Eom Jae-il (played by Kang Yoo-seok). Han Ye-ji, who marked a miraculous beginning with a leading role after her first audition, proved her potential deserving of the title 'special rookie' through 'Resident Playbook.'
Rookie Han Ye-ji, who established her presence as the emotionless 'T' Kim Sa-bi in 'Resident Playbook,' has a journey ahead that is highly anticipated.
Next is the full transcript of actress Han Ye-ji's concluding thoughts released by her agency, P&E Studio.
Q. What are your feelings after finishing 'Resident Playbook'?
= Thanks to the production team and staff, I was able to complete it successfully. Every moment up until the finishing point was new, but especially, the reactions and interest from viewers for the drama and Sa-bi were thrilling and nerve-wracking to feel up close.
Q. Was there a particular aspect you focused on or cared about while portraying the emotionless T resident 'Kim Sa-bi'? I'm also curious about the unique charm of 'Kim Sa-bi' as you see it.
= Although she unintentionally hurts others with her words and actions, she is a friend who is warm and adorable in her innocence. I wanted to focus more on expressing those cute and lovely moments.
Q. Were there any challenges, such as in surgical scenes, while playing the role of an obstetrics and gynecology resident?
= I thought Sa-bi would need to pronounce difficult medical terminology accurately, so I paid special attention to practicing my lines. Memorizing medical terms and pronouncing them correctly wasn't easy, but I tried my best to deliver in as natural a manner as possible.
Q. What was the atmosphere like on set, and how was the chemistry with the OBGY actors? Do you have any memorable stories from the set with the other actors?
= With each filming, the staff and senior actors took care of me like family and friends, so I was able to film happily and comfortably. As I cannot eat flour, the props team always prepared food without flour for me, and the memory of Yoon Jung personally applying batter to the chicken so I could join in eating was particularly heartwarming.
Q. In the latter part of the drama, it was revealed that Kim Sa-bi had a cute twist as a fan of the group 'High Boys' during Eom Jae-il's (played by Kang Yoo-seok) idol days. The subtle loveline between Kim Sa-bi and Eom Jae-il excited viewers at home. Was there a viewer response that left a strong impression?
= I thought a lot about 'What would Sa-bi's fandom look like' and wanted to incorporate that into the dance scene. I focused on performing with a serious expression and precise moves befitting Sa-bi, and I appreciate those who recognized that.
Q. How do you think 'Resident Playbook' will remain in Han Ye-ji’s life beyond being her first drama? Is there something you've gained through this drama?
= As much as I learned from my seniors here, I think this work and setting will serve as a good reference for my future activities.
Q. What do you think the remaining 2025 will be like for Han Ye-ji? If you have goals as an actress, what are they?
= I expect that it will be a year of constantly contemplating and preparing to meet viewers as another character in another production, apart from Sa-bi. I really want to show a new side of myself.
Q. Please give your final greetings to the viewers who supported Kim Sa-bi in 'Resident Playbook.'
= I sincerely thank the viewers who watched our drama and sent their interest and support to Sa-bi and me. Thanks to you, both Sa-bi and I will be able to grow into better versions of ourselves moving forward. Thank you!
