'Choi Hwa-jung and Kim Ho-young's I Missed You' Jung Kyung-ho confessed to his slump.
In the 11th episode of the ENA variety show 'Choi Hwa-jung and Kim Ho-young's I Missed You,' aired on the 18th, actor Jung Kyung-ho appeared and discussed his slump.
That day, Jung Kyung-ho revealed the story behind his appearance in 'Seulgi's Prison Life.' He recalled, "I heard the audition news from somewhere. I requested to audition first, but the director and writer immediately rejected me saying, 'We don’t think Kyung-ho needs to come.' They said the role Kyung-ho wants is not the main character, but the role of the main character's friend, which I didn’t mind. I just wanted to see their faces, so I went."
He continued, "I went to the audition, read the script, and talked, but truly the two had a look of questioning why I was there," and Choi Hwa-jung asked, "Then why did you want that role so much?"
Jung Kyung-ho said, "I wanted to work with director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung. I really wanted to work together, regardless of whether I was the main character. They seemed overwhelmed. So I wrote a letter at that time, stating the 8 reasons I should be in this drama," adding, "I sent a brief analysis of why I want to do the drama and the role of Lee Junho. But I still think of 'Seulgi's Prison Life' as me being the main character," which drew attention.
Meanwhile, Choi Hwa-jung asked about the slump. First, Yeon Je-wook noted, "Since I started filming 'Oh My Ghost Clients,' I've been pondering if I could continue acting. About last year, I suddenly started to worry about it. So I had a drink with my brother and talked. He listened without responding. I sensed something even without him saying it. It felt like a release."
Choi Hwa-jung asked, "How did you feel about the question of whether a beloved younger colleague should stop acting?" Jung Kyung-ho replied, "I always tell Je-wook this, but I believe that at some point, an opportunity will come for everyone. I've just had the chance a bit earlier and played the main character; if one has good talent, an opportunity will surely come at some point."
Yeon Je-wook recalled, "And soon after, I ended up filming 'Oh My Ghost Clients.' At the first shoot, meeting Kyung-ho while exchanging lines felt like having a silent conversation about something else. I felt thankful and it was a marvelous experience, as it seemed like what I had shared with him that day."
Jung Kyung-ho also confessed that he is experiencing a slump that is not a slump. He mentioned that he has entered his 20th year as an actor, saying, "I am very thankful that I have been working non-stop in each project. However, I feel like there have been too many times I have not filled myself up as much as I should. It’s like I cannot love myself, I haven’t studied enough, and my body hasn’t even been able to grow, this self-repeating cycle."
He then expressed his future goals, saying, "As these times keep repeating similarly, it’s not a slump, but after this project, I want to read more books, try other hobbies, and do some exercise to gain weight." Hearing this, Choi Hwa-jung understood Jung Kyung-ho's feelings, saying, "I also feel that being an actor is my true calling and that I must continue, but there may be a discrepancy between how people see me and my true self. In those moments, I also wonder if I am being perceived positively from the outside while feeling unfulfilled internally, leading to worries and sometimes sadness."
