MBC 'News Desk' expressed its position regarding the investigation results of workplace bullying related to the late Oh Yoanna.
On the afternoon of 19th, MBC 'News Desk' reported on the workplace bullying case involving the late Oh Yoanna.
The 'workplace bullying case of the late Oh Yoanna' became known through a media report in January. The deceased unexpectedly passed away in September last year, but as the background remained undisclosed, it sparked curiosity. Subsequently, specific senior weathercasters were identified as offenders of workplace bullying through the note left by the deceased and testimonies from acquaintances, shocking many.
In the early days of the allegations, those identified as offenders remained silent without officially addressing the matter. Even though they blocked comments on their social media and disabled the comment function on the YouTube channels they appeared on, refusing to communicate, they were captured continuing to appear in the news as weathercasters, drawing public criticism.
On the 19th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted a special labor inspection on MBC and concluded that although the late Oh Yoanna did not qualify as a worker under the Labor Standards Act, there were acts that could be considered workplace bullying.
Having not reported on the case of the late Oh Yoanna until now, 'News Desk' reported on the results of the special labor inspection by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, stating that the Ministry imposed a fine of 15 million won on MBC for identifying six violations of labor relations laws.
Additionally, on that day, 'News Desk' revealed MBC's official statement regarding the late Oh Yoanna case. MBC stated, "We take seriously the Ministry of Employment and Labor's judgment that there were acts of bullying against Ms. Oh Yoanna and we will take measures regarding the relevant parties and improve the overall organizational culture."
Furthermore, it was stated, "We will establish a 'cooperation director' to ensure that issues arising among freelancers and non-regular workers can be reported and corrected immediately by the parties involved or a third party," and noted, "We will carry out appropriate actions regarding the assessments of the workers' status of some freelancers after legal reviews within a short time."
Lastly, MBC stated, "Once again, we apologize to the bereaved family for the unfortunate incident involving the late Oh Yoanna. We wish for the deceased's soul to rest in peace."
