Chef Jeong Ji-seon has embraced a new dream.
On the 18th episode aired on KBS2, singer Byun Jin-seob joined as a new boss, showcasing his daily life alongside Park Myung-soo's.
On the occasion of his 38th anniversary since debuting, "The Emperor of Ballads" Byun Jin-seob made a rare appearance in a variety show. To support Byun Jin-seob, his "super fan" Kim Hyo-jin made an appearance, and he shared his diary for Byun Jin-seob to prove his status as a "successful fan." Meanwhile, Kim Sook revealed that she liked Lee Seung-chul, drawing some jests. Byun Jin-seob pointed out, "You definitely seem like a type that would like Seung-chul Hyung," which brought laughter.
Kim Hyo-jin defended Byun Jin-seob by saying, "Byun Jin-seob might be treated poorly, but he isn’t the kind of person to mistreat others. I cannot understand why he is here." Byun Jin-seob evaluated himself, saying, "I think I am easygoing and have a good personality." His band appears to maintain strong ties, as they have been together for over a decade, yet they expressed complaints such as, "He’s the nagging Lee Gi-dong type" and "his mood changes daily, so it’s hard to know how to adapt to him."
Ahead of his concert in Busan, during rehearsal, Byun Jin-seob displayed a sensitive and sharp demeanor, singling someone out and saying, "If it goes wrong, it’s all your responsibility." He emphasized the concept of 'dimensionality,' but no one agreed, putting him in a tough spot. Byun Jin-seob exclaimed, "Saying ‘that guy's dimensionality’ was a bit shocking," eventually bursting out, "What did I do wrong?" sparking laughter.
Having focused on the choreography during the performance, Byun Jin-seob returned home. At home, he was joined by his second son, Byun Jae-jun, who transitioned from being an artistic swimming athlete to a musical actor and is now working as a choreographer. Byun Jae-jun caught attention with his resemblance to actor Yoo Ji-tae. Byun Jin-seob explained, "I learned modern dance and participated in competitions during high school. Initially, I danced modern dance during the instrumental parts of songs. My son's body looks so beautiful that it received a great response" as he discussed his son’s journey to becoming a choreographer.
Later, band members came to visit to foster unity. Byun Jin-seob's house boasted a sophisticated kitchen with luxurious furniture and an impressive loft that was as spacious as the living room. The loft featured a private workspace, showcasing its luxury. While talking with the band members, Byun Jin-seob noted, "Since I appeared, there has been a ballad boom. Lee Moon-sae sang ballads too, but the term ‘ballad’ emerged when I came on the scene. The last successor was MeloMance's Kim Min-seok. I crowned him as the third heir."
Recently, comedian Song Pil-geun drew attention by singing "To a Lady." Byun Jin-seob joked, "It’s not my song, but still nice," evoking laughter. In response, Byun Jae-jun urged, "Dad, take it too!" and Byun Jin-seob sang MeloMance's "I think it’s love" to compete.
As Byun Jin-seob shared a meal with his band members, he mentioned that his first album sold over 1.5 million copies, saying, "Back then, the sales were not accurately counted. I think it sold more than 2 million copies." Specifically, Byun Jin-seob revealed he earned 2 billion won from album revenues in 1990, which drew surprise. He expressed pride, saying, "After debuting and becoming a star, I drove the best car at the time, the Granzer, and even had an American car, which was rare back then. I earned that much back then." He added, "If I were to share episodes related to popularity, we would have to stay up all night. Nowadays, they say BTS, but I was BJS."
Park Myung-soo appeared alongside Ye-won for the second episode of "Walking to the Boss's House." He said, "Until now, various guests have appeared, but it seems that 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' has finally found its footing. To renew as a role model, we need to hold auditions for bosses." He met with Kim Gi-hwan, the CEO of a 100-year-old traditional makgeolli company recording annual sales of 50 billion won. Kim Gi-hwan, who took over the company at the age of 29 and has been running it for 15 years, sought advice from Park Myung-soo, saying, "I’ve ranked second in the makgeolli industry. I’m curious about how to become number one." Park Myung-soo responded, "I will observe and help if I see you have the qualities of a boss."
Kim Gi-hwan shared, "Fifteen years ago, all makgeolli processes were carried out manually, causing each batch to differ in taste. Therefore, I recorded every process to standardize it, leading to successful automation and rapid growth through mass production." However, he analyzed that he could not reach number one due to a lack of know-how in distribution, prompting Park Myung-soo to argue, "You need to use models."
Park Myung-soo and Ye-won participated in a blind test. By combining various side dishes with ice cream and makgeolli, Park Myung-soo, who began to appreciate makgeolli, sang as if intoxicated, generating laughter. Later, Park Myung-soo and Ye-won ventured into the alley market of Bangi-dong, visiting restaurants that hesitated to serve makgeolli due to its expiration date. Showing confidence, Park Myung-soo established rapport with restaurant owners by interviewing them and empathizing with their stories, and he naturally attempted to make sales by ordering dishes that paired well with makgeolli. Additionally, he took the lead in promoting makgeolli to other tables, completing the sales successfully.
After the workday, Chef Jeong Ji-seon organized the schedule in the store that finished sales, diligently studying English due to numerous overseas schedules. Subsequently, Jeong Ji-seon emerged as "Chef Jennie" by referencing the New York pop-up store and Harvard lectures in a meeting with the deputies. Motivated, Jeong Ji-seon stated, "Based on this experience, I feel I could be fine in the U.S.," inviting Lucky and Alberto, promising vacation for the team that creates menu items that captivate their palates.
As midnight approached, the deputies who delayed their leaving divided into two teams to develop new menu items for the U.S. market. During the creation of the menu, Jeong Ji-seon received recommendations for likely successful menu items and ingredients from Lucky and Alberto, nurturing dreams of business expansion. New menu items including tofu tacos and radish shrimp balls were introduced, among which Lucky and Alberto unanimously selected radish shrimp balls. Consequently, Jeong Ji-seon presented a new menu leveraging chicken as the main ingredient to highlight the strengths of both teams. The dish, designed to resemble the rising U.S. landmark 'Vessel,' showcased overwhelming visual appeal and flavor, earning acclaim and nurturing dreams of entering the U.S. market.
