KARA's Park Gyuri self-deprecated about her former agency DSP, saying, "They didn’t let us practice."
On the 16th, a video titled "As the 2nd generation’s banner and DSP's direct seniors, having day drinks with SS501 older brothers" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'I am Gyuri.'
At the day drink gathering were KARA's Park Gyuri, SS501's Heo Youngsaeng, Kim Kyu Jong, and others, who shared past memories and engaged in lively conversation at a restaurant.
Previously, the three were affiliated with DSP Media, which was famous as an idol planning agency. SS501 debuted in 2005, while KARA debuted in 2007. This agency also produced Fin.K.L and H.O.T in the 90s, standing shoulder to shoulder with its competitor SM Entertainment, and was once regarded as the 'home of idol groups.'
Park Gyuri smiled after meeting Kim Kyu Jong, saying, "Seeing you with makeup after a while makes me excited," to which Kim Kyu Jong replied, "I really went out without makeup, so it's been a long time since I’ve done it." Park Gyuri then said, "Why do you keep speaking formally? Don’t use honorifics." Kim Kyu Jong explained, "It's just that I've been accustomed to speaking formally since I was young, and it has become a habit that I can't shake off."
Park Gyuri confessed, "When we text, he is really sweet, but when he calls, he suddenly says, 'Gyuri, hello~.'" Kim Kyu Jong admitted, "My younger sister was born in '88, but I sometimes speak formally to her," expressing how difficult it is to change.
The two began to sort out their seniority. Park Gyuri recounted, "SS501 were direct seniors of the company, and for me, SS501 was completely 'wow~ I can’t even make eye contact.' That was the level of respect I had." Kim Kyu Jong added, "KARA was right below us. (SS501) wasn’t like that at all."
After a while, Heo Youngsaeng joined the gathering, and Park Gyuri shared, "The older brothers are my direct seniors, so it really feels different. Because when I was a trainee, the older brothers had already debuted."
Kim Kyu Jong asked, "Was it really tough for you? What was it like when you were a trainee?" Park Gyuri revealed, "DSP didn’t let us practice. They didn’t provide systematic training." When Heo Youngsaeng remarked, "We experienced that too," Park Gyuri responded, "Did the older brothers really go through that? That’s classic DSP," and added, "It felt like 'figure it out on your own, grow on your own.'" Kim Kyu Jong also agreed, saying, "It was about 'surviving strongly.'"
Park Gyuri recalled, "The older brothers also practiced in an underground studio in Cheongdam-dong," to which Kim Kyu Jong confirmed, "That's right. We practiced there too. It features in the music video for 'Geobjeong-i' by our seniors Buzz."
Park Gyuri said, "At that time when we (the KARA members) were practicing, if someone said, 'OKONG has come,' we would go out and greet them," but the SS501 members did not remember, leading Park Gyuri to joke, "Why are our memories different? Is this the difference between trainees and singers?"
