Park Soo-hong expressed frustration upon learning that it is difficult for triplets to enroll in fetal insurance.
On the 16th, TV Chosun's 'Our Baby Is Born' (abbreviated as 'Ouriagi') broadcast a couple preparing to give birth to triplets in Daegu.
The couple already has a first daughter and became pregnant with triplets while planning for their second child. The probability of natural conception was just 0.01%, which added to the astonishment.
The mother noted, 'At 26 weeks, I started having uterine contractions and have been hospitalized and released repeatedly for a month. I am receiving medication to suppress the contractions, but if used excessively, it may cause side effects, so we are monitoring the babies' condition 24 hours a day.' Park Soo-hong felt regretful upon seeing the numerous injection marks on the mother's wrist.
Currently at 31 weeks, the mother explained, 'It is said that triplet births usually occur around 34 to 35 weeks. The goal is to hold out for about 3 weeks.' She added, 'A day outside the mother's womb is like a week in there.'
Among the triplets, two are identical, and one is fraternal. Unlike the third baby who has its own placenta, the second, who shares a placenta with the first, is somewhat smaller in weight. For this reason, the mother was trying to delay the birth for as long as possible.
Park Soo-hong asked the couple if becoming parents of four children instead of one was an economic burden, to which they agreed, saying, 'That is the most burdensome part.' The husband complained, 'The first child is still in diapers. When we tried to enroll the three kids in insurance, the companies all rejected us.'
Surprised, Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung listened as the husband remarked, 'Honestly, I understand. I think it's excessive, but from the insurance company's perspective, it involves losses. Since going to the hospital is certain, they have to pay out more than they collect.' Yet, he could not hide his disappointment.
In response, Park Soo-hong stated, 'The government should protect them. We need to ensure that families with multiple children can enroll safely in insurance and give birth.'
