Will Hwang Jung-eum create a fitting conclusion in the final episode of "Solo, So?" or will she be edited out? As actress Hwang Jung-eum faces controversy over embezzlement allegations involving around 4.3 billion won, attention is drawn to the editing status of the variety show she is currently appearing on, "Solo, So?"
On the 16th, the production team of the SBS Plus and E Channel variety program "Solo, So?" responded to reports regarding the possibility of minimizing Hwang Jung-eum's screen time and editing by stating, "We are still in internal discussions. There has been no change from our previously stated position."
The production team of "Solo, So?" is in deep contemplation ahead of its finale due to what has recently come to light regarding Hwang Jung-eum's embezzlement allegations. It was revealed that she was indicted without detention for allegedly embezzling 4.34 billion won from a family-owned corporation in which she held 100% equity to invest in cryptocurrency. It has been disclosed that she received loan payments in the company's name as cash advances for about a year starting from 2022, investing over 4.2 billion won into coins.
Hwang Jung-eum's side stated regarding the allegations, "The defendant invested in cryptocurrency with the thought of wanting to grow the company, and since the corporation could not hold cryptocurrency, she temporarily invested in her own name, which led to this incident." They also added, "Since the production company's revenue comes from the defendant's activities, there are circumstances under which it ultimately accrues to the defendant. The cryptocurrency was sold to repay part of the damages, and we are trying to repay the remaining amounts by selling real estate, so please take into account the motive for the crime."
Hwang Jung-eum also opened up through her agency, saying, "While I had the desire to grow the company, in 2021, I received suggestions from those around me to grow the company’s funds through cryptocurrency investments, and I found myself diving into cryptocurrency investments that I wasn't well familiar with. Although it was company funds, it was revenue I had earned through my activities, so I think I made an immature judgment."
She continued, "In order to rectify the erroneous transactional relationships, I am currently involved with another agency and am thoroughly cleaning up the transactional relationships with the former company. I have repaid a significant portion of the funds that I withdrew from the company in the form of cash advances by disposing of my personal assets, and I am in the process of settling some unpaid amounts," she said, bowing her head and adding, "I apologize once again and will fulfill my necessary responsibilities."
The production team of "Solo, So?" stated immediately after the controversy surrounding Hwang Jung-eum, "We are aware of the related details and are confirming with the agency," and has maintained the position of "still in internal discussions" even after Hwang Jung-eum's stance was made public.
As "Solo, So?" approaches its finale on the 20th, it has been troubled by Hwang Jung-eum's unexpected controversy. It will be interesting to see whether they will achieve a fitting conclusion without editing or go through editing to minimize viewers' discomfort.
Meanwhile, SBS Plus and E Channel's "Solo, So?" will air its final episode on the 20th at 8:30 p.m.
