Director Lee Min-soo and writer Kim Song-hee revealed their favorite scene from "Resident Playbook."
The tvN weekend drama "Resident Playbook" (creators Shin Won-ho and Lee Woo-jung / directed by Lee Min-soo / written by Kim Song-hee / planned by CJ ENM Studios / produced by Egg Is Coming), which is racing towards its conclusion, depicts the boundless growth journey of fresh graduates, delivering laughter, emotion, and empathy. Among these, we focused on a decisive scene that moved not only the viewers but also director Lee Min-soo and writer Kim Song-hee.
Having made his full-length drama debut through "Resident Playbook," director Lee Min-soo picked the episode featuring Pyun Nam-gyeong (played by Shin Si A) and her mother among the eight episodes. Pyun Nam-gyeong, who was too busy adjusting to hospital life, found it hard to even make a warm phone call to her mother, but following her mother's surgery, she was finally able to spend time with her.
Watching this episode, director Lee Min-soo noted, "I was reminded of how I neglected my family and treated my parents coldly under the excuse of being busy." He recalled, "On the day of her discharge, Nam-gyeong says, 'Mom had such a happy two nights and three days.' I remember crying while reading the script, crying while filming, and crying during editing."
Kim Song-hee, who also marked her first start with "Resident Playbook," selected the episode featuring Pyun Nam-gyeong and her mother as her favorite scene among the eight episodes. Kim Song-hee added, "It’s a small and everyday episode, but the feelings of the daughter facing her mother who comes to visit her at work and the mother who sees her working daughter resonate deeply, making it very memorable."
In particular, Kim Song-hee's other favorite episode is said to be hidden in the last episode, arousing curiosity. Regarding this scene, Kim Song-hee revealed, "Even if it's not the 'ordinary life' people talk about, it feels like a comforting message that one can be happy even without fitting into that criteria, making it memorable." Curiosity is also building around what Kim Song-hee's favorite episode in the final episode is.
In this way, director Lee Min-soo and writer Kim Song-hee are enhancing the immersion with a variety of characters' stories, from fresh graduates stepping into their first jobs and babies experiencing their first day of life, to mothers starting the second chapter of their lives and patients rekindling their will to live through surgery. As the residents' growth stories race towards the end, anticipation grows for the chaotic hospital life that they will depict.
The tvN weekend drama "Resident Playbook," featuring can't-miss relatable and emotional iconic scenes until the end, will air its 11th episode tomorrow (17th) at 9:20 p.m.
