Actor Yoon Kyung-ho from 'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon' confessed that his mindset towards variety shows has changed since 'The Boss's Project 3.'
On the morning of the 15th, a production presentation for the new E Channel variety show 'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon' took place at Cinecube Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Actors Ryu Soo-young and Yoon Kyung-ho, along with MONSTA X's Kihyun, attended the event and shared insights about the program with domestic reporters under the moderation of MC Koo Young-keun.
'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon' is a variety show depicting the culinary study abroad challenges of three brothers—Ryu Soo-young, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Kihyun—who travel abroad to learn and develop new recipes. Ryu Soo-young has been recognized for his practical cooking skills on various cooking shows, earning him the nickname 'Chef Yoon', while Yoon Kyung-ho gained popularity as 'Yoorim Ping' in the Netflix series 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.' Kihyun from MONSTA X has chosen this as his first variety show after military service, generating high expectations.
Among the participants, Yoon Kyung-ho is taking on his first fixed variety show role through 'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon' after appearing as a guest in tvN's 'The Boss's Project 3.' Yoon Kyung-ho, who received praise for his diligent and sincere demeanor in 'The Boss's Project 3' while also drawing attention for struggles related to making kimbap, is expected to present a more cheerful side in 'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon.'
Regarding this, Yoon Kyung-ho confessed, "In 'The Boss's Project 3,' I hadn't done much variety work before. My first variety show was 'The Boss's Project 3' through a fortunate opportunity given by senior Cha Tae-hyun."
He continued, "Since variety shows were unfamiliar, I was actually quite doubtful and careful, trying to hide. However, viewing that aspect humanely made me think this might not be my true self, and I wondered if people were only seeing it positively. Although I have relaxed my tension now, I might not have been very genuine at that time. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to those who might have seen my unintentional pretentiousness in a good light," he chuckled, adding, "It wasn’t because of Tae-hyun or the atmosphere; as someone who can’t speak English, I was looking for a space to hide without being noticed, and the place for making kimbap turned out to be the quietest spot to avoid talking."
He said, "Now, that experience has toughened me up, allowing me to do things with less fear. Ryu Soo-young has a personality similar to mine. I learned a lot from him. I understand his personality very well. Although I can be clumsy, I tend to finish what I start, and I wonder how many failures he has faced when experiencing recipes with his personality. I wanted to overcome him, but I thought about how much effort it takes to prepare a single dish. Another interesting aspect of our project is that it differentiates from other works featuring Ryu Soo-young, as we can see his human side up close."
He also mentioned, "Kihyun provides unique responses beyond just saying whether something is delicious or not, and his answers are creative and impressive. He speaks skillfully without translation, and I thought it might be arrogance. He said it seems possible to speak up after just three days, but honestly, whether it’s language or food, he can do anything, so he really is a supportive youngest member. I was very grateful for a lot."
'Study Abroad: Yoon Nam-seon' will premiere on the 17th at 5:20 p.m.
