Director Hong Sang-soo was spotted at the Cannes International Film Festival. "Milk buff" refers to the phenomenon where athletes work harder to earn money for baby formula after their child is born. Even if it is not necessarily a "milk buff," it can refer to celebrities who work hard after having a child as doing so "to earn money for baby formula," and recently, Director Hong Sang-soo fits this description.
Director Hong Sang-soo welcomed a son with actress Kim Min-hee, who admitted to their affair, in January. Following the news of the birth, last month, director Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee were spotted taking a walk with their child in Lake Park, making headlines.
At the age of 64, director Hong Sang-soo is working hard after having a late son. On the 13th (local time), he attended the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, which opened in the southern French city of Cannes, and walked the red carpet.
Although South Korea's feature films were not invited to this Cannes International Film Festival, director Hong Sang-soo was appointed as a jury member. This is the first time Hong Sang-soo has served as a juror, making it the sixth time a Korean filmmaker has participated as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. Previous jurors include actors Jeon Do-yeon, Song Kang-ho, and directors Park Chan-wook, Lee Chang-dong, and Shin Sang-ok.
Included among the jury members with French actress Juliette Binoche, American actress and filmmaker Halle Berry, Indian director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia, and Italian actor Alvaro Le Wacher, director Hong Sang-soo wore a black color suit matched with a tie of the same color, exhibiting a neat style on the red carpet.
In a jury press conference held before the opening ceremony, director Hong Sang-soo expressed, "I don't know why I'm here. Anyway, I couldn't come last time, but I'm glad I could come this time."
While director Hong Sang-soo works hard as a jury member at the Cannes International Film Festival to earn money for baby formula, Kim Min-hee is left to handle sole responsibility for childcare.
Meanwhile, director Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee have maintained an affair for nearly 10 years since they formed a connection through the 2025 film "Right Now, Wrong Then."
