Broadcaster Yoo Jae-suk shared his thoughts on 'bad comments.'

On the 14th, the tvN program 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereafter referred to as 'You Quiz') featured media expert Professor Yoo Hyun-jae from the Department of Communication and Broadcasting at Sogang University, actor Park Hae-soo, teacher Kim Ji-hwon, who imparts life tips to children every morning, and teacher Lee Myung-hak, who returned after 42 years of teaching.

Yoo Jae-suk asked, "Are there many malicious comments that go too far? Is there a reason for the increase in bad comments?" Professor Yoo Hyun-jae responded, "Isn’t it like a kind of game? It determines the target for attack. The general public might not make a value judgment that it’s okay to attack. They leave the most insulting words they can. Even if it’s their real name, would they still do that if they saw the person face-to-face? When you ask those who make excessive malicious comments, they say, 'Was I the only one who did that?', 'Did I hit that person?' Online attacks hit harder. I want to see a law specific to our country soon."

Professor Yoo Hyun-jae firmly stated, "Whenever I have an interview about YouTube or SNS law, I always refer to examples from Europe. Fines of 70 billion won, actions must be taken within 24 hours. It raises awareness in society. One should not invoke freedom of expression in this case."

Yoo Jae-suk said, "I don’t think one should always endure malicious comments. It’s especially sad when unfortunate things happen. It’s so sad that the perception is that one should naturally accept bad comments." Professor Yoo Hyun-jae shared, "I am from a bereaved family. My older brother made an extreme choice. When I was a professor in the U.S., I heard about my brother’s situation. For three years, I was just dazed. I even thought, ‘Why isn’t he contacting me?’"

Professor Yoo Hyun-jae mentioned, "I contacted Yoo Jae-suk about participating in a suicide prevention campaign 7-8 years ago, and he agreed. We were all moved. Just recently, there have been similar incidents. Guidelines related to suicide have been established. We avoid reporting on suicide incidents as much as possible. We don't report specific methods. We must protect the bereaved family."
