Actress Nam Kwon-ah said she transformed negative reactions into positive ones after appearing in Netflix’s ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines.’
In a video titled “Facial asymmetry hate comments turned into praise... story of the housekeeper from ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines,’ a scene-stealer,” Nam Kwon-ah mentioned that after ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines,’ she unintentionally became a celebrity, saying, “People recognizing me would ask, ‘Is that her from When Life Gives You Tangerines?’ I had never experienced that kind of recognition on the street before. This everyday life is amazing,” she said with a smile.
Comments regarding her appearance also changed after ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines.’
Nam Kwon-ah stated, “I was so upset that I felt like saying ‘I won’t act anymore.’ Since I have a slight handicap (facial asymmetry), there are things that are noticed before my acting. I read many of those comments and was really hurt. The worst comment was something like, ‘The world has become so great that even a face like that can be an actor.’” She continued, “Ultimately, it’s about facial asymmetry, but ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ saved me. People say I’m different from other actors. It changed the hate comments and negative feedback. I’m really grateful to the drama.”
Additionally, she mentioned about the character, “It’s hard for someone living with their beliefs. I thought, ‘I could be like that,’ and ‘If I live well, someone will help me, so I must live well.’”
Regarding her acting chemistry with IU, she expressed, “I felt I had succeeded. She captures the worries and struggles of the young generations of that era so well. I wondered how she could act so perfectly; I thought, ‘She is a wonderful person.’”
