This summer's most anticipated fantasy action film, <The Reader's Perspective> (Director: Kim Byung-woo, provided by: Lotte Entertainment, Smilegate, distributed by: Lotte Entertainment, produced by: Realize Pictures Co., Ltd.), has unveiled character posters and a teaser trailer that spark curiosity.
<The Reader's Perspective> tells the story of how, on the day the novel that had been serialized for over 10 years concluded, the world within the novel becomes reality, and the only reader, 'Kim Reader,' along with the protagonist 'Yu Jung-hyuk' and his companions, fights to survive in a destroyed world.
The released character posters draw attention with the perfect synchronization and overwhelming presence of the actors capturing the strong individuality of each character. First, the intense gaze of 'Kim Reader' (Ahn Hyo-seop), the only reader of the novel serialized for over 10 years, grabs attention. 'Kim Reader' stirs curiosity about how he will utilize the narrative of the novel that only he knows through the line, "I am the only reader who knows the ending of this world." The line, "Why did the world become this way?" from the protagonist 'Yu Jung-hyuk' (Lee Min-ho), who has been the main character of the novel for over 10 years, further heightens expectations for how the world of the now-realized novel will unfold on screen. 'Yu Sang-ah' (Chae Soo-bin), a companion who faces the moment when the novel becomes reality alongside 'Kim Reader', cannot hide her confusion as she asks, "Do we have to fight like this every day?"
In the world of the novel unfolding before them like a dream, the initial confusion is brief, and they soon begin to fight against foes they had never imagined, alongside the 'Reader' to survive. 'Lee Hyun-sung' (Shin Seung-ho), a companion of 'Kim Reader' with immense strength, questions, "How do you know all these things, Reader?" but gradually comes to trust 'Reader' and becomes a reliable shield for the party. The expression of 'Jung Hee-won' (Nana), another companion fighting for justice alongside 'Kim Reader', is also noteworthy. As she gazes at someone with intensified eyes, saying, "There's still one left. The one who has given up being human," it sparks curiosity about what she has experienced and how she will cope in the future. The high school student 'Lee Ji-hye' (Jisoo), who refers to 'Yu Jung-hyuk' as her master, confronts 'Reader' and bluntly states, "In this world, only the strong survive." This raises questions about the story behind 'Ji-hye's' cold expression that reveals no emotions. The boy 'Lee Gil-young' (Kwon Eun-sung), who empathizes with insects and joins the journey of the 'Reader' party, also exudes a charming presence. His unexpected enthusiasm, as he energetically proclaims, "I want to fight against monsters too," is something to look forward to.
The released teaser trailer elicits gasps with its fresh world view and a plot that’s impossible to tear your eyes from. The ordinary office worker 'Kim Reader' suddenly finds himself faced with the reality of the world from the novel during his commute home on the subway. As an announcement states that a paid service will begin at this moment, he realizes his situation, saying, "Isn’t this exactly how the novel starts?" Suddenly, a goblin-like figure appears and utters, "All humans will be assigned a scenario. Kill one or more living beings," plunging the subway into chaos. The ordinary world disappears, and a completely different reality unfolds, one where only survival depends on killing or being killed. In this world where the story I loved and only I knew has become a reality, 'Kim Reader' and the protagonist 'Yu Jung-hyuk' of the novel, along with his companions from the real world, 'Yu Sang-ah', 'Lee Hyun-sung', 'Jung Hee-won', 'Lee Ji-hye', and 'Lee Gil-young', must utilize the story that only they know to survive together, and expectations for <The Reader's Perspective>’s unique narrative are growing.
With its fresh setting and overwhelming spectacle, <The Reader's Perspective> is set to dominate theaters this summer, premiering nationwide in July.
