Enhypen has returned as vampires full of "desire."
On the afternoon of the 11th, at the Megabox COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, Enhypen unveiled the 'DESIRE Concept Cinema' for the first time through the premiere event of their mini album 6th 'DESIRE: UNLEASH.'
'DESIRE Concept Cinema' is a short film that visualizes the concept of the upcoming mini album 'DESIRE: UNLEASH.' Ahead of their comeback, Enhypen heightened fans' expectations by briefly showcasing key themes addressed in the album through this unique cinematic format.
It has been about a year since Enhypen presented a concept cinema, following the release of their 2nd studio album 'ROMANCE: UNTOLD' in July last year. At that time, directed by Lee Chung-hyun, Enhypen's concept film depicted the story of a boy sharing love with "you," from two opposite worlds, illustrating Enhypen as vampires rushing into dangerous situations to be with the only human who protected them, 'Chloe.'
In particular, through 'UNTOLD Concept Cinema,' Enhypen delivered thrilling action sequences, presenting a vividness akin to that of a blockbuster film. Amidst this, the latest 'DESIRE Concept Cinema' captured the more mature and deadly charms of Enhypen.
The 'DESIRE Concept Cinema,' produced with a runtime of about 9 minutes, is set against the backdrop of the 1970s, where humans and vampires coexist. In the lead-up to a total lunar eclipse, a vampire appears on a talk show to reveal their identity to the world and continues with interviews about vampire love and desire.
As the total lunar eclipse begins and the city falls into darkness, vampires begin to awaken. The scenes are intercut with those who refuse their instincts in the presence of a desire-stimulating monster, those experiencing inner conflict, and those who accept and reveal their desires, adding to the tension.
This 'DESIRE Concept Cinema' was directed by Park Min-soo, who has gained attention at numerous international film festivals. It captures a gloomy and mysterious atmosphere with meticulous mise-en-scène, maximizing visual beauty.
Once again challenging their acting skills following 'UNTOLD Concept Cinema,' the members of Enhypen showcased a more developed presence, exuding intense allure compared to their previous work. In particular, Hee-seung and Niki, as well as Jay and Jake, synchronized their performances playing dual roles of a single person's inner and outer self. They portrayed their struggles encountering a monster that powerfully knocks on the inner self suppressed by desire, demonstrating deeper acting skills.
The keyword 'desire,' which permeates the entire work, has a close correlation with the upcoming mini album 'DESIRE: UNLEASH.' During a press conference, Jake noted, "This film well expresses the mini album created with the keyword 'desire,' as it signifies the start of the album, we focused on that aspect." Sun-woo added, "While in our previous work we expressed more innocent love, this time we have upgraded to a more mature appearance," further increasing anticipation for the soon-to-be-released mini album 6th.
Meanwhile, Enhypen will make a comeback with the mini album 'DESIRE: UNLEASH' on the 5th of next month after 7 months. Prior to that, the main feature of 'DESIRE Concept Cinema' is set to be released at midnight on the 12th.
