Singer Kim Jae Joong confessed to being a victim of personal information hacking.
On the 7th, Kim Jae Joong revealed through the official fan communication platform "From," "Kakao Pay was hacked."
Kakao Pay is a financial support service that allows easy payments and remittances linked to cards or accounts, and in the event of hacking, it can lead to significant financial damage.
In response, Kim Jae Joong explained, "When I called the consultation center, they told me to leave it for the securities consultation center. They said there’s also a security incident center there, so when I referred it, I ended up talking for an hour," adding, "In the end, I couldn't resolve it, and the call ended due to work."
He said, "If I don’t know the password, I can’t delete the account of the person who hacked it. The password changed because of the hacking, so how am I supposed to know it?" He also expressed his frustration, saying, "They said they would introduce me to another consultant, but when I asked which department it was, it turned out to be the same consultation department I first called. My mental health has taken a hit."
He continued, "I understand that the consultants are having a hard time, but this is really inadequate," questioning, "Even if I get hacked, am I supposed to know the password changed by the hacker?"
As the news spread, fans expressed their concerns. Kim Jae Joong, currently the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of InCode Entertainment, which includes the girl group Say My Name, actor Oh Ji Yul, and Kara’s Nicole, is understandably more sensitive to financial account hacking.
In particular, Kim Jae Joong has suffered from stalking by sasaeng fans for a long time and has repeatedly voiced the pain of being victimized. In the past, he was hacked on his social media account by sasaengs, consistently suffering from privacy violations and leaks of personal information, now he has once again fallen victim to hacking. Moreover, the financial institution's inadequate initial response also fueled fans' anger.
Meanwhile, Kim Jae Joong announced two days later, "It took about a day and a half to finally cancel my Kakao Pay account," indicating that the incident has concluded safely. There are no additional damages identified apart from the account hacking. However, since this could have led to more significant harm, he expressed, "It really was a scary day."
On the other hand, Kim Jae Joong will release his new EP "Beauty in Chaos" on the 15th and make his comeback. He is also scheduled to meet fans at the "2025 KIM JAE JOONG ASIA TOUR CONCERT 'Beauty in Chaos' IN SEOUL" on the 24th and 25th.
