The Man from Nowhere, a popular broadcaster known as 'Popeye Uncle,' died today (9th).

On the 9th, he collapsed while on the way to a hospital near his home in Seocho District, Seoul, due to health reasons, and was rushed to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital for emergency treatment but passed away.

In this regard, a close associate of the deceased noted in a call with OSEN, "It is true that the teacher has passed away. I believe he suddenly fell ill after visiting the hospital due to a cold and while leaving."

The associate further explained that "the funeral home is expected to be arranged at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, but there are currently no available rooms. It is said to be possible from tomorrow afternoon" and added that "the son resides in Hong Kong, not Korea, and they are planning to arrange the funeral home in consultation once he comes to Korea."

Born in 1944, Lee Sang-yong debuted in 1971 as an MC for CBS Christian Broadcasting. He was called 'Popeye' while hosting KBS's children's singing program 'Let's Sing Together' in 1975.

Notably, he served as a host on MBC's military visiting program 'Stage of Friendship' from 1989, gaining widespread recognition as 'Popeye' and receiving great affection from military personnel and their families. His survivors include his wife, two sons, a daughter, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.
