Director Yoo Beom-sang's one-act play "Recipient" moved audiences around the world.
From April 22 to May 4, at the "58th Houston International Film Festival" held in Houston, Texas, "Recipient" (scripted by Kim Ji-eun and directed by Yoo Beom-sang) won the Platinum Award in the foreign feature romance category, recognizing its artistic value.
"Recipient" is a drama about a high school student who wins a 5 billion won lottery and struggles to collect the prize after realizing that minors cannot claim the winnings. Actors Kang Shin, Jo Jun-young, Baek Sun-ho, and Noh Jong-hyun portray children with inner scars, capturing the freshness and precariousness of youth, garnering significant attention.
In particular, the cinematography, which handles a weighty and realistic story while capturing the refreshing aspects of youthful vitality, drew attention. Director Yoo Beom-sang, making his directorial debut with "Recipient," noted, "I am happy and deeply moved to receive an award at the Houston International Film Festival, one of the three major film festivals in North America, and I express my deep gratitude to the staff and actors who worked hard to complete this project, as well as many others."
The Houston International Film Festival is considered one of the three major film festivals in North America, alongside the San Francisco Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, and notable films by master directors such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, the Coen brothers, and IAAN have won awards at this festival.
