The war-like daily lives of those who declared abstinence begin in a day that's hard to endure without a clear mind.
tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Second Shot at Love' is a clear-minded romantic drama in which a woman, who considers herself a moderate drinker, reunites with her first love, who hates alcohol, and is challenged to her first-ever abstinence. Ahead of its premiere on May 12 at 8:50 p.m., highlights are shared featuring five characters' chaotic attempts at abstinence, which are difficult to handle in a clear mind.
The released video captures the moment Han Geum-joo (played by Choi Soo-young) takes an alcohol addiction test, grabbing viewers' attention. In a test where a score of over 20 indicates addiction, Han Geum-joo remarkably scores 40, leaving her speechless at the unbelievable result. This is due to her years of enduring a tough work life alongside alcohol, which has now returned as the stigma of 'alcohol addiction.'
Han Geum-joo's family also draws attention. Her father Han Jung-soo (played by Kim Sang-ho) has accidents due to his love for alcohol, while her sister Han Hyun-joo (played by Jo Yoon-hee) has endured a convoluted life, experiencing marriage and divorce over a drink. Her mother Kim Kwang-ok (played by Kim Sung-ryung), who brakes the family's drinking pattern without pause, declares war on abstinence with a firm shout of, "There will be no alcohol in this household from now on!"
Following this, Kim Kwang-ok's declaration of abstinence expands beyond their home to the entire neighborhood. Even local merchants join in, turning the whole town of Bo-cheon into a no-alcohol zone. As paths are blocked both at home and in the town, the three alcohol-loving members of the family ultimately embark on a search for alcohol, even being dragged to a sobriety camp with Buddha. The moment they collapse helplessly in front of the famous local makgeolli spot brings laughter.
Meanwhile, Han Geum-joo's reunion with her first love Seo Ui-jun (played by Gong Myoung) adds excitement. Appointed as the head of the Bo-cheon health center, he is trusted by the townspeople, earning the nickname 'Bo-cheon's God.' While he once loved alcohol as much as anyone, he is now completely estranged from it. Han Geum-joo cannot hide her disbelief at the fact that Seo Ui-jun, who was stronger than anyone with alcohol, has broken ties with it. Upon their reunion after a long time, Seo Ui-jun chides her to "quit drinking" which piques her curiosity.
Subsequently, Seo Ui-jun guides Han Geum-joo to places where she must avoid alcohol and even checks her health, contributing to her abstinence challenge. In particular, during their banter, feelings that had been frozen due to past severance begin to move again, raising interest in what direction their relationship will take.
'Second Shot at Love' highlights showcase the daily lives of five characters struggling to manage without alcohol, the family's efforts to quit drinking, and the changes in the rekindled relationship with first love, increasing anticipation for the first broadcast.
