The Netflix series 'Dear Hongrang' has released production stills.
'Hongrang', the son of the greatest merchant of Joseon, returns after 12 years with no memory, and the only one who doubts his reality is his half-sister 'Jae-i'. The series presents the mysterious emotions blossoming between them.
One of the points not to miss in 'Dear Hongrang' is the detailed production that enriches the unique ‘watching fun’ of the historical drama genre.
First, the colorful hanboks that maximize the charm and uniqueness of each character capture attention. 'Hongrang' (Lee Jae-wook), the son of 'Minsangdan', wears mostly white clothes when living in 'Minsangdan' or when encountering 'Jae-i' (Jo Boa). This enhances the mystery of 'Hongrang', who returns with no memory, and whose identity remains unknown.
'Hongrang' wears a lot of white clothes, and each shade of white is different. The details of the costumes were incredible, and I felt the beauty of hanbok a lot while participating in 'Dear Hongrang,' said Lee Jae-wook. "The costumes differentiated the characters so well that they could be seen through just the costumes. Thanks to the costumes, I think I was able to show a bit more diverse aspects," added Jo Boa, which raises anticipation for the costumes of 'Dear Hongrang', intricately completed with attention to detail.
Moreover, 'Jae-i's' costumes, which reflect the restraint and simple color palette from a long time of oppression, sharply contrast with 'Min-yeon' (Um Ji-won), the mistress of 'Minsangdan', whose costumes feature elaborate colors, patterns, and various accessories, clearly highlighting the personalities of the two characters. Additionally, the costumes of 'Mujin' (Jung Garam) and 'Sim Yeol-guk' (Park Byung-eun), who exude a heavy charisma and dignity as the heir of 'Minsangdan' and the head of the merchant group, along with 'Han Pyeong-daegun' (Kim Jae-wook), a painter known for having the best aesthetic sense in Joseon with beautiful colors, also add to the visual enjoyment.
'Dear Hongrang' is set against the backdrop of 'Minsangdan', the largest merchant group in Joseon, and various props found throughout 'Minsangdan' also catch the eye. The expensive celadon and mother-of-pearl lacquerware handled by 'Minsangdan', along with artworks, vividly showcase the scale and grandeur of 'Minsangdan', also reflecting the charm and quality of items favored by the top figures of the time in Joseon. Moreover, the different types of art tools used by 'Han Pyeong-daegun', from brushes to carving knives and paints, heighten curiosity about the paintings he will create in 'Dear Hongrang'.
'We made every effort to accurately reflect the feeling of the Joseon period. The painting styles and architecture were also attempted to incorporate elements from the Joseon era,' said director Kim Hong-seon, revealing the focus on details that completed the intricate art of 'Dear Hongrang'. The series aims to invite audiences worldwide into the world of mystery and melodrama unfolding in Joseon through delicate production that captures the atmosphere of that time.
The mystery melodrama 'Dear Hongrang', which captivates viewers worldwide with its immersive production, will be released on Netflix on May 16 (Friday) at 4 p.m.
