Actor Choo So-jung revealed her ideal type.
Choo So-jung held an ending interview for the tvN drama "Divorce Insurance" (written by Lee Tae-yoon, directed by Lee Wo-seok and Choi Bo-kyung) at the OSEN building in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on 2nd.
"Divorce Insurance" is a pure guarantee office romantic comedy that introduces an insurance product aimed at coping with divorce, the hottest disaster of our times, developed by a team of innovation product developers at an insurance company consisting only of the best brains. First aired on March 31, "Divorce Insurance" received much love for its unique subject matter and the ensemble of actors and concluded its 12 episodes on the 6th.
Choo So-jung delivered a strong performance as Jo Ah-young, a claims adjuster at Plus Insurance who determines the damage amounts for insurance claims. Jo Ah-young, the only single and non-marriage advocate in the innovation product development team of No Ki-jun (Lee Dong-wook), presents a unique perspective, and Choo So-jung portrayed her loveliness and spirited personality while also depicting her gradually wavering heart through fleeting glances and changes in expression, completing a multi-dimensional character.
Choo So-jung noted that she was careful not to let the bouncy charm of Jo Ah-young come off as unlikable. She said, "While preparing for Jo Ah-young, my biggest concern was that she might come off as unlikable. I consciously tried to adjust the basic tension. Jo Ah-young, even just from the text, is indeed a lively, bright, and energetic mood maker, but if that gets too excessive, it could appear very forced or unlikable. So, I paid a lot of attention to controlling my tension. By asking people around me, I received a lot of helpful objective feedback, and it wasn't just my effort; I was able to become more flexible in blending into the character of Jo Ah-young thanks to the support from those around me."
In particular, Choo So-jung formed a romantic atmosphere with the character Park Eun-sik, played by Yoo Hyun-soo. Since her character setting was a non-marriage advocate who doesn’t even date, she needed to appear convincing. Choo So-jung stated, "This was something I had significant doubts about. I wondered how Jo Ah-young, a non-marriage advocate who doesn't date, would get a love line with Park Eun-sik, but as I discussed it with the director, I realized that ultimately, it was Park Eun-sik's pure and upright heart that shook Jo Ah-young. Rather than Jo Ah-young being swayed by constant flirting, I think it was Park Eun-sik's warm-heartedness toward people and healthy mindset of preserving what he loves that seeped into the cold-hearted Jo Ah-young. So, at some point, as I read the script and acted, I began to understand it a bit. In fact, I had a lot of questions at first about why Jo Ah-young would fall for a character like Park Eun-sik, but as the latter part of the script came out and I genuinely empathized with Jo Ah-young while acting, I began to convince myself that, as a character, Park Eun-sik could certainly elicit such feelings."
So what would Choo So-jung's ideal type be? She said, "I don't really look at external appearances, but if there's something I do notice, it's that I like people with pretty hands. I don't know why, but if hands are pretty, it feels likable. Also, I like someone who tries to maintain an honest and healthy mindset. A person who continuously strives to protect themselves, standing firmly on their own two feet, is appealing to me. I hope to find someone with whom we can share good energy. It's somewhat like the vibe of Park Eun-sik," she laughed.
Since the title of the work is "Divorce Insurance," Choo So-jung said, "If the product Divorce Insurance comes out at some point in the future, I don't think there would necessarily be anything wrong with that. If it is thought of as one of the methods to protect myself, I would be willing to sign up. However, the other person would also have to agree, right? I would be open to exploring this together with my partner. I truly wonder if a Divorce Insurance product might exist in the future. It makes me think that this drama might see a renewed interest at that time."
Choo So-jung expressed to those who have not yet engaged with "Divorce Insurance": "We must continuously face farewells. Goodbyes often follow, and I believe we should eventually learn how to part well. There are, after all, breakups that are not just associated with negative images but also for the sake of new, good chapters. I would like to say that this is a work that allows people to realize such things. Problems of marriage and divorce aside, unhappiness can strike unexpectedly, much like a natural disaster. I think this work infuses courage to leap into those moments without hesitation, and I sincerely hope many people watch it."
