Lee Seung-yeon's adoptive mother contemplated a trial marriage.
In the episode of TV CHOSUN's 'Father and I' broadcast on the 6th, Lee Seung-yeon met with both her adoptive and biological mothers, during which her adoptive mother surprised the audience by discussing trial marriage.
The stepmother recounted to her biological mother the distress she had felt due to Lee Seung-yeon's father and husband. The stepmother asked, "What do you think would happen if I had a trial marriage?" To this, the biological mother replied, "No, you shouldn't," stating, "Isn't there little time left now?"
The biological mother said, "It will be 1 or 2 years. Once you go later, let's live together," triggering laughter. The stepmother remarked, "When I mentioned having a trial marriage, my husband kept silent as well," and the biological mother responded, "Let's meet chat sometimes on the phone," showing understanding.
Lee Seung-yeon, who returned to her seat late, asked, "When did you decide to live together?" In response, the stepmother joked, saying, "In olden times, that would be an older brother."
The biological mother said, "A trial marriage is not acceptable." To this, Lee Seung-yeon replied, "What do you mean it’s not acceptable? If you want to, then go ahead and do it." The biological mother advised, "Just wait a little longer. Once you enter the hospital, you won’t be able to come out," prompting uproarious laughter.
Lee Seung-yeon remarked, "After the meeting, I called my biological mother to ask if she said not to have a trial marriage because of me. But she said it was because she genuinely worried about her adoptive mother. Hearing that made me feel at ease."
The biological mother comforted the stepmother and engaged in conversation. The stepmother told the production team in an interview about the trial marriage, "I've been going through this for over 50 years. My daughter and her biological mother suggested that we try to endure for just 2 years. If I have a trial marriage and my husband doesn't turn out well, I think my son might blame me. Although it would be a different story once we see each other, I've decided to try to endure for just 2 years." [Photo: TV CHOSUN's 'Father and I' broadcast capture]
