Director Hwang Byeong-guk’s crime film “YADANG: The Snitch” continued its box office success during the May holiday weekend. Although it dropped to third place due to the influx of new releases, it quickly reclaimed the top spot during the holiday period.

According to the integrated cinema ticketing system on the 7th, “YADANG: The Snitch” drew more than 831,000 people (26.9% market share) from the 1st to the 6th. It also topped the daily box office during that period, except for one day on the 5th.

Since its release on the 16th of last month, “YADANG: The Snitch” maintained its top position but fell to third place on the 30th of last month, when new films such as “Holy Night: Demon Hunters,” “Thunderbolts*”, and “The Old Woman with the Knife” premiered. However, it quickly regained the number one spot the following day on the 1st.

“YADANG: The Snitch” has accumulated more than 2.67 million viewers, surpassing the previous year’s holiday film “Hitman 2” (2.54 million) to become the highest-grossing Korean film of the year. The movie is about an opposition broker who receives drug crime information and profits from it. It tells the story of Ikang-Soo (played by Kang Ha-neul), a broker living in symbiosis with prosecutor Ku Kwan-hee (played by Yoo Hae-jin), and detective Oh Sang-jae (played by Park Hae-joon) who risks everything to dismantle a drug trafficking organization.

Meanwhile, the film that followed “YADANG: The Snitch” in second place is the Hollywood adventure film “Minecraft Movie.” Over the past six days, approximately 668,000 viewers (21.3%) watched the film. Despite dropping to fifth place when new films were released on the 30th of last month, it overtook “YADANG: The Snitch” to claim the number one spot on Children’s Day, the 5th. Its cumulative audience has now increased to over 1.09 million.

In third place is Marvel Studios' new release “Thunderbolts*”, which was seen by over 545,000 people (19.1%). The occult action film “Holy Night: Demon Hunters”, starring Ma Dong-seok, was watched by around 520,000 viewers (16.8%), landing in fourth place. In fifth place is the action film “The Old Woman with the Knife,” starring Lee Hye-young, with approximately 222,000 viewers (7.3%).
