The first theme in Strange Stories was 'han.' It is a unique sentiment found only in Korea, and regarding experiences filled with 'han,' Hongja noted, 'Because my days of being unknown were long, the stage was always precious and valuable. I longed for it enough to feel 'han.'
Park Gun explained, 'Being poor was 'han.' Looking back now, it wasn't because I was naughty that I got scolded by the teacher in elementary school, but because I needed to bring school supplies, and since my family was struggling, I couldn't buy expensive supplies.' Park Gun added, 'I was constantly scolded, got hit on the palm, and spanked. I think that was really upsetting.'
Professor Jin Su-hyun explained about 'han,' stating, 'I believe Korea has created a unique and distinctive Korean sentiment through its long history of invasion, war, colonialism, and division.'
