Actors Jo Jung-suk and Jeon Do-yeon made their names count at the Baeksang. In broadcasting, the strength of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' stood out. However, the grand award went to 'Culinary Class Wars'.

The '61st Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci' was held on the 4th at 8 p.m. in Hall D of COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. Hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Suzy, and Park Bo-gum, it is the only comprehensive arts awards ceremony in Korea covering broadcasting, film, and theater.

The grand award in the film category was awarded to cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo for 'Harbin', and the director award went to Oh Seung-wook for 'Revolver'. He said, “Winning an award makes me want to do it again. I thought this was my last work, but I want to win an award again. This is my second project with actress Jeon Do-yeon, and I learned how to express human misery well. I'm grateful to actress Jeon Do-yeon for giving me this homework.”

Jeon Do-yeon responded with the best acting award. She said, “I thought it was enough when the director won the award. We agreed to meet when we had no work to discuss short and refreshing stories. I was a bit anxious because we worked together on 'The Merciless.' The director said that finding a new face of Jeon Do-yeon was the goal. That's why I shone. Thank you to all the actors and staff,” she added with a smile.

The male award winner was unexpected. Jo Jung-suk, the star of 'Pilot', beat Yoon Joo-sang from 'Morning Sea Seagulls', Lee Byung-hun from 'Victory', and Lee Hee-joon from 'Handsome Guys'. He said, “I really didn’t expect it. I wanted to win an award, but it was a challenge. I was worried and wondered if it was a reckless challenge while filming. Working with the director and senior and junior actors felt recognized, and I am grateful. I wanted to win,” he expressed happily.

Director Park Chan-wook and writer Shin-cheol became the script award winners in the film category with 'Jeon, Ran'. He stated, “This is the first time I’m receiving a script award for a film I didn’t direct. It feels good. While observing the political situation in our country, I thought a lot about Jeon-ran. It is the brave and wise citizens who save a country in crisis. Now is the time to choose a leader who matches the level of our great citizens,” he emphasized.

Yoo Jae-myung, who won the male supporting actor award for 'The Land of Happiness', said, “It was a happy set. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who was with me. I remember the night in Jangheung, where we shared drinks with all the staff who felt like brothers, Seon-kyun and Jeong-seok. I will spend this night thinking of my friend who passed away,” as he paid tribute to his fellow actor, the late Lee Seon-kyun.

The female best award winner, Kim Tae-ri from 'Jeongnyeon-i', mentioned that predicting the winner was extremely difficult. She remarked, “It is an honor to portray the period when women's traditional opera was the most brilliant. I feel ashamed that I am lacking in qualities to receive the award. While I tried not to compromise, it wasn’t the absolute answer, but it was my romance of that time. I will become an actor who progresses with the desire to do well.”

Ju Jihoon, who took home the male best award for 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call', stated, “First of all, I want to thank the viewers who enjoyed our work. I deeply feel that as the work progresses, there is nothing I can do alone without my colleagues. It feels like I'm representing those who made and enjoyed it together. I will meet you with a work that can communicate fun,” he declared confidently.

Yum Hye-ran, who won the female supporting actress award for 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' for two consecutive years, expressed, “'When Life Gives You Tangerines' felt like not just the staff but another role. I am grateful to the viewers who remember me as Gwang-rye. I am so thankful to live in the same era and act with writer Lim Sang-chun and director Kim Won-seok. I want to sincerely say I love my daughter and my mother,” and became emotional.

Choi Dae-hoon, who also received the male supporting actor award for 'When Life Gives You Tangerines', remarked, “This is likely to be the best gift I've ever received among all the Childrens' Day presents. The excitement, concern, and happiness I felt when I received the call from director Kim Won-seok and writer Lim Sang-chun are an unforgettable journey. Whenever I feel tired and exhausted in this difficult and harsh world, just shout 'Hak-ssi' there!” and received applause.

The male entertainment award went to Shin Dong-yup, who surpassed Kim Won-hoon, Dex, Sung Si-kyung, and Yoo Jae-suk. He remarked, “It’s like my head goes blank when I receive this because it feels like a rookie award. I received an award that I never expected at all. My heart is racing. I felt a bit puzzled. I thought they were being considerate since I've been an MC for a long time. I really thought Kim Won-hoon would win, and it wouldn’t be strange for anyone else to receive it,” he said humbly.

Lee Soo-ji, who won the female entertainment award, stated, “There are many nice people around funny individuals. When the stage disappeared and I fell into a slump, the 'SNL' team reached out to me. I really love them. I also want to appreciate the 'Hot Issue' team for always allowing us to work joyfully. Even when faced with criticisms, there are many viewer messages. Thanks to all of you.”
