A $10 million mansion in the U.S. unveiled… "The dollars belong to my wife; I’m not giving her more with the rising exchange rate."
In "My Little Old Boy," Choo Shin-soo, who has an annual salary of 190 billion won, brought laughter to reality with stories about life in a $10 million mansion and economic control.
On the 5th, during the broadcast of SBS "My Little Old Boy," donor angel and top-earning baseball player Choo Shin-soo appeared, sharing jaw-dropping stories about his life in the U.S. and his family. Seo Jang-hoon remarked, "Your cumulative salary is currently 190 billion won at the current exchange rate."
Seo Jang-hoon mentioned, "Your cumulative salary is currently 190 billion won at the current exchange rate," while Shin Dong-yup expressed his astonishment, saying, "There are very few who surpass that in the entire entertainment industry." Previously, Choo Shin-soo revealed, "I received a signing bonus of 1.5 billion won when I signed with the Seattle Mariners, and the major league signing bonuses were as high as 140 billion won," eliciting admiration. He also noted that his highest annual salary was "$21 million, which was about 30 billion won at the time."
However, the house where he lives in Texas, U.S., rendered all these figures insignificant. The mansion boasts an area of 18,000 square meters and construction costs amounting to approximately 10 billion won. When the producer asked, "What is the current market price?" his wife, Ha Won-mi, replied, "It’s not double, but it has risen a lot. I can’t say for sure because we aren’t selling it."
With 14 bathrooms, a swimming pool, a movie theater, a basketball court, a baseball field, and even a museum inside the house, it’s more of a "private sports resort" than just a mansion. Choo Shin-soo laughed, saying, "The baseball field is a space made for the kids to practice anytime, but I didn’t get to use it much since they just went to their dormitory."
Nevertheless, even for Choo Shin-soo, who lives in such an enormous house, there were "realistic concerns." It was about economic control. Choo Shin-soo confessed, "My wife manages the large amounts, while I manage the small amounts. I handle the won, and my wife handles the dollars," which brought laughter after a moment of silence in the studio. Seo Jang-hoon and Shin Dong-yup remarked, "That’s really critical."
Ultimately, Choo Shin-soo lamented, "I have one regret. I should have changed that (economic control)... Since the exchange rate went up, my wife doesn't exchange dollars for me anymore," expressing a bittersweet reality.
