Elkie, a former member of the girl group CLC, revealed a harrowing experience that brought her close to death.
On the 3rd, Elkie detailed a nightmare-like day through social media, stating, "Yesterday morning, I woke up with a severe headache and dizziness."
According to Elkie, at the moment she tried to take her medication, her vision went white, and she bumped into things before collapsing. It was only after being transported to the hospital by ambulance that she was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning. She explained that the cause of her collapse is suspected to be a gas leak, which had no smell, smoke, or sound, reminding everyone once again of the dangers of carbon monoxide.
Elkie confessed that she had been experiencing fatigue, drowsiness, and headaches but had considered these symptoms trivial due to her habit of "persevering through it," which ultimately had serious consequences.
In particular, Elkie was reported to have had a carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) level exceeding 20%, which is more than 10 times that of a normal person, indicating mild to moderate poisoning upon arrival at the hospital. She shared that, after hospitalization and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, her condition has stabilized.
Based on her horrifying experience, Elkie highlighted the dangers of carbon monoxide and emphasized the importance of prevention. She warned that carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, making it difficult to detect, stressed the significance of ventilation, pointed out that it can be dangerous not only during showers but also in everyday life, and urged the installation of carbon monoxide detectors as a means to save lives. Additionally, she shared detailed guidelines on what to do if poisoning is suspected, conveying her hope that there will be no more victims like herself.
Elkie expressed, "This time was truly terrifying," adding, "I am really lucky and grateful," as she realized how precious safety is, something she had taken for granted. Despite experiencing a horrific accident, she is sharing the lessons learned through it to think of the safety of others, which has led to messages of support from fellow entertainers like Choi Yeon-jeong and Chao Lu.
Meanwhile, Elkie debuted in 2016 with the group CLC. She gained attention as the first Hong Kong member of a K-pop girl group and has been active in the Chinese-speaking regions since her departure in 2021.
Here is Elkie's statement
Hello. This may be a bit long, but I hope you'll read it to the end.
Yesterday morning, I woke up with a severe headache and dizziness.
After I went to the bathroom, I was about to take my medication.
My vision went white just like that.
I bumped into things and then collapsed.
It was only after getting into the ambulance and being examined at the hospital that I realized I had carbon monoxide poisoning.
The cause is suspected to be a gas leak.
There was no smell, smoke, or sound at all.
I only felt tired, drowsy, and had a headache recently.
