The ‘Haunted Palace’ actors Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon failed to exorcise the eight-foot ghost.
The 5th episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Haunted Palace’ (written by Yoon Soo-jung and directed by Yoon Sung-sik), broadcast on the 2nd, depicted the scene of Imugi Gang-cheol (played by Yook Sung-jae) and Yeori (played by Kim Ji-yeon) rematching against the eight-foot ghost.
On this day, Gang-cheol learned from Monk Ga-seop (played by Lee Won-jong) that he must completely exhaust his luminous pearl to fully exorcise the eight-foot ghost. Gang-cheol exclaimed, “This brat monk! Are you telling me to use all my luminous pearl just to catch an eight-foot ghost and die in the process?” but declared he would become Yeori's body guardian.
That night, Yeori said, “As your devotee, I vow to serve you with all my heart and sincerity,” to which Gang-cheol replied, “I, Imugi Gang-cheol, will accept you as my disciple and be your solid backing.”
The two then exchanged bracelets and rings. Gang-cheol told Yeori, who was thinking of Yoon-gap, “Even if Yoon-gap can't come back to this body, you will always be my disciple. Literally. If I vacate this body, whether that guy's spirit can find its way back is not something you can be sure of either. Also, even if you save Yoon-gap's spirit and bring him back to life, nothing will change until I become a dragon and ascend.”
In particular, Gang-cheol asserted, “No matter how much you hold him in your heart, I will never let you go.”
Meanwhile, the two were called into the palace by someone. It turned out to be the Empress. The Empress, shocked by the death of Prince Young-in (played by Kim Seon-bin), aimed to protect the Crown Prince and King Lee Jung (played by Kim Ji-hoon). Yeori explained, “The eight-foot ghost appears to be a fiery spirit. It moves through fire and seems like a ghost that died in flames.”
Gang-cheol also warned, “Until now, the eight-foot ghost has possessed the Crown Prince's body for a long time, enjoying that suffering. But this time was different. It killed instantly. It will do so in the future too. If we don't stop the eight-foot ghost, you and your child will die right there.”
Ultimately, the king stated, “I am the ruler of this nation and thus I cannot command unjust acts. However, this is a matter involving both a ghost and human intervention. I address this as a king based on the beliefs and standards I have upheld,” and reinstated Gang-cheol as a secret officer to carry out a mission, while ordering to keep Yeori as a royal artisan.
Meanwhile, Yeori predicted that the eight-foot ghost would appear on a day when the fire energy increases. She even devised a plan to lure the eight-foot ghost with false rumors, preparing to confront it.
Later, Yeori placed her hand on Gang-cheol's body and said, “I heard that the luminous pearl that comes out of an Imugi's body has tremendous power, even if not as much as a dragon's orb. I saw it on Bukak Mountain. The formidable eight-foot ghost couldn't fight against the luminous pearl. We should use the luminous pearl's power to stab the eight-foot ghost with the lunar spear.”
Finally, meeting the eight-foot ghost again, Gang-cheol stabbed it with the lunar spear while trapped behind an iron net, but it was ineffective. Gang-cheol collapsed on the ground, and a panicked Yeori said, “Can't we do it even with Gang-cheol's luminous pearl?” At that moment, the iron net containing the eight-foot ghost tore, and the ghost began to reveal itself.
