In the KBS2TV program "Newly launched restaurant," actor Nam Yoon-soo disclosed updates about his father after the kidney transplant.
The update about actor Nam Yoon-soo and his father's recovery was broadcast on KBS2TV's "Newly launched restaurant" on the 2nd.
Six months after the kidney transplant, actor Nam Yoon-soo shared a touching video call with his father, conveying a deep emotional resonance. During the call, the father expressed feelings of guilt and love for his son through tears, and Nam Yoon-soo conveyed "I love you" for the first time in his life.
Earlier, Nam Yoon-soo donated his kidney to his father, who was suffering from end-stage renal failure. He revealed, "My father was in stage 5 end-stage kidney disease. Even with continuous dialysis, the 10-year survival rate was only 25%," and he shared his decision background: "I was afraid he would pass away, so I told him I would donate my kidney first."
He also recounted a frightening episode when his father suddenly disappeared due to memory loss the day before the surgery. "He didn't even know where he was going. It was really a close call," he recalled about the circumstances that made delaying the surgery impossible.
Now, six months after the transplantation began, Nam Yoon-soo stated, "Fortunately, both my father and I are recovering healthily," and shared a video call.
During the call, his father said, "I feel like I can live long because of Yoon-soo... I'm about to cry again," expressing both gratitude and guilt toward his son by saying, "I tear up just seeing you, and I'm really sorry." Nam Yoon-soo, trying to hide his emotions, replied, "It's okay. I love you, Dad," but this confession required significant courage.
"Honestly, I've never said such things. Being from a family of brothers, expressing love was awkward," he noted, adding, "This experience has brought my father and me closer." The studio guests also conveyed a warm sentiment by saying, "Let's often say 'I love you' to our parents."
