The agency stated, "Ryoko Hirosue was hospitalized after her release from detention on April 16, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and hyperthyroidism," adding, "She is currently continuing treatment under medical supervision."
They further noted, "Both Ryoko herself and the agency deeply reflect on addressing her struggles and difficulties with the phrase 'poor condition.' For the time being, Hirosue will suspend all activities and focus on mental and physical recovery."
The agency also urged, "There is absolutely no intention to evade responsibility by attributing this incident to an illness, and we will continue to respond sincerely to the police investigation. We ask that excessive speculation regarding her condition be refrained from."
Previously, on the 8th of last month, Hirosue caused a collision while driving a car on the highway and was transported to the hospital. However, while waiting at the hospital, she was arrested on the spot for assaulting a nurse by kicking and grabbing her arm. The nurse is reported to have sustained abrasions.
Meanwhile, Ryoko Hirosue, known as Japan's 'national sister,' starred in films like 'The Railway Man' and 'Hana and Miso Soup.' Her pure image, cute smile, and emotionally touching performances garnered immense popularity, not only in Japan but also domestically. However, she became embroiled in an affair scandal with the owner chef of a popular French restaurant that earned a Michelin Guide 1-star in 2023. After the affair scandal, she divorced Jun Candle and expressed her desire to continually apologize for the inconvenience and concerns she caused to many, ultimately issuing an apology in August of last year, a year later.
