In 'Haunted Palace,' Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon met Palchukwi again.
In the fifth episode of the SBS weekend drama 'Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung/directed by Yoon Seong-sik), which aired on the 2nd, scenes depicted Gang-cheol (played by Yook Sung-jae) and Yeori (played by Kim Ji-yeon) preparing to catch Palchukwi.
On that day, Prince Yeong-in (played by Kim Seon-bin) was killed by Palchukwi, while Gang-cheol asked Monk Gaseob (played by Lee Won-jong), 'Do you really not know what you're asking? There is a formidable evil spirit, and I can temporarily fend it off, but eliminating it entirely will be difficult. Can you help me banish that evil spirit?'
Monk Gaseob replied, 'Are you really asking this seriously? To dispel the grudge of such a powerful evil spirit and properly banish it, you need the dragon's magical pearl or this luminous pearl in your body; otherwise, the grudge of the evil spirit will never be satisfied.' He continued, 'You must sacrifice yourself. As you said, you can temporarily hold it off with the luminous pearl. You must fully deplete the luminous pearl in your body and sacrifice yourself to successfully banish a powerful evil spirit like Palchukwi. What do you think? Are you willing to try that?'
Gang-cheol snapped, 'What kind of monk are you, asking me to use up all my luminous pearl and telling me to die just to catch some Palchukwi?' However, Gang-cheol went to find Yeori and said he would accept her request, stating, 'Since I need to enter a human body, please prepare a proper ceremony.'
Yeori, who found her grandmother's mystical weapon, performed the ceremony with Gang-cheol that night. Yeori said, 'I will serve you with all my heart and sincerity as your disciple,' and Gang-cheol responded, 'I, the Imugi Gang-cheol, will accept you as my disciple and become your reliable support.' The two exchanged bracelets and rings. Yeori commented, 'Not bad,' but added, 'I won't raise my head just yet. When you have saved Yoon-gap from Palchukwi and escaped from that body, then I will.'
Then Gang-cheol remarked, 'Even if Yoon-gap doesn't return to this body, you will still be my disciple. That's a given. If I empty this body, who knows if that spirit will find its way back? You can't be sure of that either. Even if you save Yoon-gap's spirit and bring him back to life, nothing will change until I ascend as a dragon.'
As Yeori continued to think of Yoon-gap, Gang-cheol declared, 'No matter how much you keep him in your heart, I will never let you go.' He added, 'If you only honor me as your master, I will definitely make that Palchukwi suffer.'
Meanwhile, upon returning to the palace, Gang-cheol and Yeori discovered that someone was aiding Palchukwi while investigating its atrocities. Gang-cheol warned, 'If we can't stop Palchukwi, we will die right here. You and your son too.'
Lee Jeong (played by Kim Ji-hoon) stated, 'I am the ruler of this country, and I am the king. Therefore, I cannot command executions. However, this is a matter involving both ghosts and human intervention. As king, I am speaking while upholding the beliefs and standards I have maintained thus far.' He reinstated Gang-cheol as a script supervisor. Yeori also decided to keep her position as an arts technician directly under the royal family.
Yeori prepared to capture Palchukwi on Byeongoil, a day when the energy of fire strengthens. Gang-cheol advised, 'Instead of calling someone like you, why not summon another shaman, someone experienced?' However, Yeori responded, 'If we do that, we could inadvertently send Yoon-gap's spirit to the afterlife. We might lose the chance to save him forever.'
Next, Yeori told Gang-cheol that the sword of her grandmother is said to be imbued with divine power. She said, 'I had heard that before. The luminous pearl that comes from the Imugi, while not as powerful as the dragon's magical pearl, possesses immense strength. I saw it at Bugaksan. Even that formidable Palchukwi was powerless before the luminous pearl. We will use the luminous pearl to pierce Palchukwi with the sword.'
Meanwhile, the two met Palchukwi again. Gang-cheol temporarily held it off using the luminous pearl, but only for a moment. Yeori was shocked and exclaimed, 'Isn't Gang-cheol's luminous pearl enough?' Palchukwi broke through Yeori's talisman, heightening the tension in the plot.
