In 'Pyeon Restaurant,' actress Jeon In-hwa revealed a destined love story with her husband Yoo Dong-geun, creating an emotional atmosphere. Particularly, the story of how she decided to marry after being moved by Yoo’s cheerful recounting of his experience with a life-threatening major car accident is touching many hearts.
During the broadcast of KBS2's 'New Launch Pyeon Restaurant' on the 2nd, Jeon In-hwa shared the behind-the-scenes story of her marriage to Yoo Dong-geun while talking with Ki Eun-se.
The couple married in 1989, making this their 36th year together. Jeon In-hwa recalled, "I was holding a paper cup in front of the KBS broadcasting station vending machine, and someone said, 'Is that Jeon In-hwa?'" She explained that their connection began when she, a rookie actress, co-starred with Yoo Dong-geun, a top actor, in the one-act play 'Sanyuhwa.'
Jeon In-hwa remembered, "After the broadcast, he asked, 'What kind of acting is that? Is that going to work?'" noting that Yoo Dong-geun was a strict senior. However, it was Yoo's accident that would determine their fate.
Jeon In-hwa referenced Yoo Dong-geun's past, where he was involved in a major accident after colliding with a vehicle driven by someone under the influence of alcohol, saying, "I had general anesthesia more than 20 times, and I still don’t have 2 ribs" and that "there are metal pins in my wrist, jaw, and leg." At the time, Yoo was in his early 30s and had to undergo rehabilitation after more than a year of living in a hospital bed. Jeon In-hwa revealed, "Because of that accident, Yoo Dong-geun even once gave up on marrying."
However, it was that very accident that led to Jeon In-hwa's decision to marry. After Yoo Dong-geun returned to the set following a long hospitalization, she witnessed him joyfully sharing stories about the accident with colleagues, causing her to burst into tears. She said, "It must have been so difficult, but seeing him overcome his pain with such openness made me think that I should take responsibility for him. I was moved by his steadfast mental strength in overcoming a significant accident and injuries."
