At the 95th Chunhyang Festival, Kim Do-yeon (20, Wonju, Gangwon, Yonsei University) was selected as 'Miss Chunhyang Jin.'
According to Jeonbuk Namwon City on the 1st, Kim Do-yeon won first place in the 'Global Chunhyang Selection Contest' held on the special stage at Yocheon-ro in Namwon City on the 30th of last month.
Kim Do-yeon said, "I am happy and thrilled," adding, "I want to globalize traditional hanbok designs that combine tradition and modernity based on my major." She continued, "I want to be an active Chunhyang, a Chunhyang who takes action."
Lee Ji-eun (21, Seoul, Sungshin Women's University) was selected as Miss Chunhyang, Jeong Chae-rin (26, Yongin, Gyeonggi, Hongik University) as Miss, Choi Jeong-won (24, Seoul, Dongduk Women's University graduate) as Jung, Lee Ga-ram (22, Seoul, Ewha Womans University) as Sook, and Mai (25, Estonia, Seoul National University) as Hyun.
The special award, Global Ambassador, went to Kim So-eun (23, Canada, Jeonbuk National University) and Hyeon Hye-seung (24, U.S., University of Pennsylvania), while the Chunhyang Festival sponsor award, Gobix Award, was given to Park Se-jin (22, Seoul, Ewha Womans University).
The Chunhyang Selection Contest has produced actresses such as Choi Ran (1979), Park Ji-young (1988), Oh Jeong-hae (1992), and Yoon Son-ha (1994).
Since last year, the Chunhyang Selection Contest has been open to foreigners. This year, a record number of over 600 participants took part, and 38 advanced to the finals. Mai, who came from Estonia, became the first foreigner to win a title at the Chunhyang Festival.
Mai is an influencer active on the YouTube channel 'Kimchi Ghost Mai,' who has traveled to over 15 countries wearing hanbok, promoting traditional Korean culture. In December 2023, she posted a video showing that a bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastry) is being sold for 4,000 won at a street stall in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul, which sparked discussions about 'overcharging.'
