Rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik), who confessed to using drugs to the police, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term.
On the 1st, Mar Sung-young, Director General of the 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court, sentenced Sik-K to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspension for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics (marijuana) and other charges. In addition, the court ordered Sik-K to receive probation and attend 40 hours of drug treatment lectures.
The court stated, 'The number of offenses is numerous, and as a famous singer, he has a significant social influence,' and noted, 'He is deeply remorseful and considering the point that he confessed to the marijuana possession charges, we reveal the reasons for sentencing.'
Previously, Sik-K was charged with using ketamine and ecstasy from October 1 to 9, 2023. He is also facing charges of smoking marijuana on January 11 of last year and possessing marijuana on January 13 of the same year.
Additionally, Sik-K reportedly told a police officer, who was on duty near the Seoul District Veterans Affairs Office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, 'I intend to confess to drug use,' and underwent a police investigation. The results of a National Forensic Service precision examination showed a positive reaction for methamphetamine, and prosecutors charged him with the case in June of last year while he was not in custody.
In this regard, Sik-K’s lawyer stated that Sik-K disclosed his drug use intentions to the police due to delirium symptoms that arose after surgery, but denied the allegations of methamphetamine use.
During the trial, the prosecution requested a sentence of 3 years and 6 months, stating, 'The defendant is a well-known rapper, significantly influencing adolescents,' and explained that, considering he received a suspended sentence for similar past crimes and has reoffended, his crime quality is not good.
In response, Sik-K said, 'I have never been so ashamed,' and added, 'I am deeply reflecting, and if given the opportunity to repay my family and company associates, I will sincerely repent and live.'
