(Interview ② follow-up) Director Min Jin-ki of 'New Recruit 3' hinted at a full-fledged romance for Lee Su-ji in Season 4.

On the morning of the 30th, a roundtable interview with director Min Jin-ki and writer Yoon Gi-young of the Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit 3' took place at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

'New Recruit 3', based on the animation by Jang Ppitzu, is a hyper-realism comedy that depicts the story that unfolds when the 'gold spoon' recruit enters a place filled with good guys, bad guys, and oddballs.

In particular, this season, the romance between Park Min-seok (played by Kim Min-ho) and his biological sister and non-commissioned officer Park Min-joo (played by Lee Su-ji) and deputy platoon leader Lim Sung-min (played by Nam Min-woo) served as an amusing element.

In response to a question about Lee Su-ji's evaluation as an actress, director Min Jin-ki noted, “From the time when she was not yet established as an actress, I consistently thought of her as a friend who, although originating from being a comedian, is better at acting in detail than anyone. So I wanted to work with her and sent a love call. I had already anticipated that she would engage in various activities like now, and what I feel while working together is that she fundamentally possesses excellent sense and quick responsiveness. She is smart, and her appearance has a rounded feel, so she has an inherent talent to adapt well to any character.”

He expressed admiration, saying, “I wanted to portray Sergeant Park Min-joo as a human weapon, the number one female soldier with smart combat skills, because I felt the approach to female soldiers in military dramas tends to be one-dimensional and deeply rooted in male superiority. Since it was happening, I thought it would be great to depict her as the best warrior in terms of combat capability and being a soldier; I felt it could be made fun, and she managed it flawlessly. First of all, the military uniform suits her very well. The charisma she exudes while wearing the uniform and instructor's hat gives an intense feeling, so I saw her charm again this season.”

When asked about the continuation of the female soldier story in Season 4, director Min Jin-ki humorously started by saying, “Lee Su-ji should get married.” He continued, “I talked to her, and it might not be Lim Sung-min. Since they have not yet depicted an earnest romance, we do not know. However, I would like to discuss a bit more realistic stories about the officers in Season 4. If the success of this season is that we are now focusing on the officers, the viewers can relate. So I think now we can address the various stories of career soldiers' families, love, and more in Season 4.”

He added, “Of course, 'New Recruit' will ultimately focus on soldiers' stories, but we will talk more about the officers. I spoke with her about Sergeant Park Min-joo, and Lee Su-ji said she would definitely come out in Season 4. In Season 4, we will depict the various struggles leading up to marriage.” (This leads to Interview ④.)
