'Archery queen' Ki Bo-bae will exclusively reveal the process of giving birth to her second child through the first domestic live broadcast variety show, TV CHOSUN's 'Our Baby Is Born.'
The new entertainment program 'Our Baby Is Born' on TV CHOSUN, which will premiere at 10 p.m. on May 9, and directed by Lee Seung-hoon and Kim Jun, and scripted by Jang Joo-yeon, will share the noble birth journey until a life is born and broadcast vivid emotional moments felt only on the day of the birth. The MCs for the birth live broadcast will be Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung. Ki Bo-bae, who recently gave birth to her second child, said, 'This was a planned child after seven years since the first one. Recording the moment of birth holds significant meaning, and I wanted to gift it' as she revealed her reason for participating. She also noted, 'I hope those planning a pregnancy or preparing for marriage would have hope rather than fear regarding childcare. The happiness a baby brings is beyond words,' highlighting reasons why this program is a must-watch. Below is a question-and-answer session with Ki Bo-bae, who is happily experiencing daily life as a mother of two.
1. Given that you are busy focusing on childbirth, what motivated you to decide to appear on 'Our Baby Is Born'?
- I wanted to gift the moment of my second child's birth. Recording the moment of birth holds great significance for the child. So, after discussing with my spouse, we decided to participate. I felt that during this time of declining birth rates, I wanted to join in encouraging childbirth through various programs. In fact, when I informed acquaintances that I was pregnant with my second child, many remarked, 'You contributed to the nation through archery, and now having a second child is a great addition to the country.' Hearing such comments made me decide to participate, hoping that my children would live in a better world.
2. What were the aspects you were most concerned about or worried about while preparing for childbirth?
- To be honest, when I was pregnant with my first child, my position as an active athlete meant I was worried that it might affect my teammates or the team. However, after retiring and being in a different position, I had more freedom in my decision-making regarding planning and getting pregnant for my second child. I was glad that I could wait for the baby without the responsibility of an athlete.
But after the second baby was born healthy, I felt really sorry. I think I couldn’t pay much attention during the pregnancy period. I had just recently been appointed as a professor and was busy with school work, and while I wanted to do everything I couldn’t do for my first child, I was very enthusiastic about spending time together. Because of that, I feel like I couldn't pay enough attention to my second during the pregnancy, which makes me really sorry... Even so, I am grateful that our child was born as a healthy member of our family.
3. How did you feel when you found out you were having a child?
- This was a planned child after seven years since the first. I could have had it sooner if I had made the decision, but because I wanted to finish my athlete career on a good note, I was convinced that I should have my second child only after retirement. I truly feel blessed that this child came right after planning.
4. Now that you have met such a precious child, how did you feel when you first faced your baby after giving birth?
- I was truly overwhelmed with joy beyond words. In fact, since the baby was born much earlier than the due date, I had a lot of worries. They said the baby's weight and belly circumference were a bit small even while in the womb. I was concerned about such things, but when I saw the small baby born too early, I felt both joy and a worry that it seemed very small and fragile. I thought, 'I must protect this baby!'
5. Please share some points for viewers and say a word to them.
- When else can people see the moments of the childbirth process? Nowadays, there are many people who say 'I prefer to stay single,' or 'I want to live alone,' and I hope that through this program, those planning a pregnancy or preparing for marriage will hold hope rather than fear regarding childcare. Giving birth may indeed be challenging, but the happiness that a baby brings is immense. It's hard to put into words. I hope that viewers can find hope by watching the birth and the process of childbirth.
