The drama 'S Line' won the Best Music award in the long-form competition at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival.
The drama 'S Line' was honored with the Best Music award in the long-form competition at the closing ceremony of the 8th Cannes International Series Festival, held on the evening of the 29th (local time) at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.
'S Line', which was the only Korean content invited to compete in this year's Cannes Series, gained attention while competing with outstanding content from around the world. Following 'Value', which won the script award in 2023, it achieved the remarkable feat of winning the second main award in history. This is particularly meaningful as it's the first time a drama has won the Best Music award at the Cannes Series.
The Cannes Series noted, "The music of 'S Line', expressed in a new and fresh way, created an emotional consolidation with the story."
Director Ahn Ju-young, who took the stage to accept the Best Music award, expressed, "I am grateful to be invited to the glorious Cannes International Series Festival and to receive this award. Anyone who loves film and drama knows how meaningful Cannes is. 'S Line' is a work that we all created together. Thank you to the producers, the PDs, the actors, and especially to music director Lee Jun-o, who won the Best Music award, and his wonderful music. I will work hard to create more fun and good works in the future."
Lee Jun-o, the music director of 'S Line', is a member of the electronica band 'Casker' and is active as a music director for films and dramas. He has participated in movies like 'The Terror Live', 'Little Forest', 'PMC: The Bunker', and 'Yaksha', as well as dramas such as 'Transaction' and 'Queen Woo'. His music, crossing various genres, has heightened the immersion of the works. Lee Jun-o remarked, "Winning the Best Music award at the Cannes Series is a great honor. 'S Line' was carried out in a free working environment. I thank director Ahn Ju-young and the production company Sidus for trusting me. I will share this joy with composer Son Jung." This win for 'S Line' was foreshadowed by the enthusiastic response during the official screening that took place successfully on the 27th (local time). After the screening, the audience, filling nearly 2,000 seats at the Palais des Festivals, gave a standing ovation, followed by enthusiastic praise for the work. Major foreign media commented, "Shockingly very interesting." (A Daily Crow), "The atmosphere of the whole world view, including sexual relationships, crime elements, and chase scenes, is very intriguing." (Deadline), "A discovery of an incredibly talented director. I am even more curious now that it is said that the released episodes 1 and 2 are about school life, followed by episodes about adults." (Vanity Fair). They all expressed high expectations for the released episodes and praised the work's shocking setting and unique world view.
Meanwhile, the drama 'S Line' is a selected work from the Korean Creative Content Agency's 'OTT Specialized Broadcast Video Content Production Support Project'. It is the second series content presented by Sidus, which expanded its territory into dramas with the 2022 Tving original 'Dr. Park Won-jang'. This award at the Cannes Series once again proves Sidus's ability to produce content with high completion quality. The news of the Cannes Series Best Music award is raising further expectations for the drama 'S Line', which is set to premiere domestically in 2025.
