In 'New Recruit Season 3', comedian Lim Jae-baek participated as an idea writer, forming a connection through various characters and realistic stories.
According to OSEN's report on the 29th, Lim Jae-baek participated as an idea writer in the Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit 3' (written by Yoon Ki-young and Kang Go-eun, directed by Min Jin-ki).
'New Recruit', which started from the mega-hit animation of the same name, depicts a hyper-realistic military comedy about a 'new recruit' entering a place filled with good, bad, and odd characters. Returning for Season 3, 'New Recruit' showcases the unpredictable transfers of two new recruits and the return of an unprecedented villain, causing disruptions in the myth unit, as Park Min-seok (Kim Min-ho) faces a dramatically complicated military life just before his promotion to corporal.
Since its first broadcast on the 7th of last month, 'New Recruit 3' has captured viewers' hearts by going beyond laughter and empathy to invoke emotions. In particular, the character-driven growth stories and a more solidified plot have attracted viewers, setting a record for its own viewership ratings (2.6%), and according to the results announced by Good Data Corporation's official platform, FUNdex, it ranked second in the integrated TV sector for the third week of April, maintaining its popularity.
The ability to capture the audience with new characters and stories comes from comedian Lim Jae-baek’s participation as an idea writer, adding realism and connection. Lim Jae-baek debuted as a KBS public recruitment comedian in 2012 and has been active in various segments such as 'Cognitive Concert's' 'Radical Words', 'Jaebaek', 'Random Talk Festival', 'Celebrity Sister', 'The Real One Appeared', and 'The Worst Evil'.
Writer Jang Joo-yeon, who worked as a main writer for 'Cognitive Concert', showcased his talent by helping adjust comedic parts or dialogues in the drama 'My Sweet Dear' as if writing a 'Cognitive Concert' sketch during her workspace, and met Yoon Ki-young through her YouTube channel, 'New Me', leading to Lim Jae-baek’s participation as the idea writer for 'New Recruit 3'.
Lim Jae-baek's ideas could be seen throughout 'New Recruit 3'. A notable idea is the salute of the new and love-filled platoon leader Jo Baek-ho (Oh Dae-hwan), who just transferred to the 2nd Division, saying 'Loyalty, I love you,' which was a salute he used during his actual military service. Lim Jae-baek’s ideas added more fun to watching 'New Recruit 3'.
In particular, Lim Jae-baek had the opportunity to appear in 'New Recruit 3' as an actor, but was disappointed as it coincided with the filming of 'Cognitive Concert'. Instead, he contributed as a writer and connected with Lee Soo-ji (playing Corporal Park Min-joo), a fellow comedian from KBS 27th public recruitment, as both a writer and an actor. Lim Jae-baek, who supported the popularity of 'New Recruit 3' as a writer, noted to OSEN, 'While I had the charm of writing and acting in 'Cognitive Concert', I found great appeal in watching actors perform the creations when participating as a writer.'
Meanwhile, the Genie TV original drama 'New Recruit 3' is released every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. on ENA, and is exclusively available for free VOD on KT Genie TV directly after the broadcast. It can be seen on the OTT platform Tving.
