KBS2 "Study and Play" Shin Hyun-joon and Kim Byung-hyun brought laughter as they performed as "Dumb and Dumber Nolbuz."
On the 28th (Monday) episode of KBS2's entertainment show "Study and Play," a total of seven family teams participated in a quiz, featuring intergenerational MCs Kang Ho-dong, Kim Ho-young, and Lee Soo-yeon, starting with Kim Jung-tae and his son Kim Si-hyeon (6th grade), followed by Kahi and her sons Yang Noah (3rd grade) & Yang Si-on (1st grade), Yang Eun-ji and her daughter Lee Ji-eum (2nd grade), Kim Byung-hyun and his sons Kim Tae-yoon (5th grade) & Kim Joo-sung (2nd grade), Shin Hyun-joon and his son Shin Ye-jun (1st grade), Lee Ji-hoon and his sons Lee Ho-jun (4th grade) & Lee Seo-jun (1st grade), and finally Lee Yoo-jun and his son Lee Joong-hyeon (2nd grade).
The episode, themed as a "Spring Picnic Special," promised a chance for correct-answer kids to draw prizes from a "lottery box," receiving explosive responses from the start. The first question posed was a 6th-grade math problem asking to "find the volume of Kim Jeong-ho's pencil case, which drew the Grand Map of Korea (Daedongyeojido)." Kim Byung-hyun unexpectedly exclaimed, "Did he make pencil cases too?" showcasing his cluelessness and causing laughter. Shin Hyun-joon, with a serious expression, confused volume and mass, saying, "It must have been heavy to draw the map," forming a comical duo from the beginning.
Moreover, in the relay quiz, a highlight of "Study and Play," the two's "Dumb and Dumber" banter shone once again. The question was to identify the names of historical figures from photos covered in the 4th-grade curriculum within three seconds. If answered correctly, snacks would be provided. In response, Kim Byung-hyun's eldest son Tae-yoon said, "Dad! You have to get this right," firmly urging his father. Meanwhile, due to Shin Hyun-joon's continued poor performance, Ye-jun, feeling despondent, cast a tearful glance at his father. When Kahi answered "Yu Gwan-sun" and Kim Jung-tae answered "Yi Sun-sin," Kim Byung-hyun and Shin Hyun-joon, seemingly in agreement, chimed in unison, saying, "Everyone who knows is here," provoking laughter.
At that moment, as a cloud of gloom shadowed Ye-jun's face, Kim Byung-hyun's second son Joo-sung encouraged him, saying, "No, An Jung-geun might come up." However, Ye-jun, trapped in a hell of distrust towards his father, innocently remarked, "But our dad doesn’t know An Jung-geun. I’m serious," spreading unfounded rumors. This led Kim Byung-hyun's two sons to express shock, saying, "Uncle Hyun-joon doesn’t know An Jung-geun," creating a hilarious moment of innocent banter among the children just as amusing as the fathers.
On that day, Shin Hyun-joon drew attention by boasting an oddly strong bond with "Yi Sun-sin." Due to the answer being "three consecutive Yi Sun-sin" in a previous appearance, he was assigned a question again about identifying Yi Sun-sin's face. Additionally, a question asking about the figure on the 100 won coin also had Yi Sun-sin as the answer. In response, Shin Hyun-joon declared, "I feel like Yi Sun-sin is almost like my other half," creating the "Yi Sun-sin Hyun-joon worldview," which had viewers laughing out loud.
Moreover, with unique quizzes and amusing wrong answers, the laughter continued. During the special quiz on after-school activities hosted by MC Soo-yeon, there was a question asking which singer's song was being described through K-pop choreography. The correct answer was New Jeans' "Super Shy," but responses ranged wildly from Kahi's "Super Star," Yang Eun-ji's "Hot Baby," Kim Byung-hyun's "Super Psy," to Lee Yoo-jun's "Super Woman." In another surprise segment where children participated, a question asked them to guess who a person was from a photo, where Shin Hyun-joon’s childhood photo bore a striking resemblance to Ye-jun, astonishing everyone.
Meanwhile, after seeing Kang Ho-dong's middle school graduation photo, Ye-jun claimed, "Isn’t that Tae-yoon's older brother?" asserting that Kim Byung-hyun's eldest son resembled Kang Ho-dong. Tae-yoon responded, "Ye-jun, I didn’t see you that way," adding to the humor. Kang Ho-dong reflected on his striking appearance, humorously saying, "I guess this is a case of life turning out well. It went better than I expected," making viewers laugh out loud.
On that day, the final victory was jointly claimed by Kim Jung-tae and Kahi. In an unusual turn, Kim Byung-hyun, who had come close to winning, confused "Yi Sun-sin" with "Toegye Yi Hwang" and once again faced defeat. Shin Hyun-joon narrowly got the last question right, giving Ye-jun the first chance to draw from the lottery, but fate played a trick as he ended up with a losing draw, leaving Ye-jun empty-handed.
Following the broadcast of episode 5 of "Study and Play," various online communities and social media reacted with comments like, "I love the mild version of 'Study and Play' so much," "I hope Shin Hyun-joon and Kim Byung-hyun sit together again. Their clueless chemistry is so much fun," "Why is 'Yi Sun-sin Hyun-joon' so funny?", "Ye-jun was pitiful but very cute today," and "The expression on Tae-yoon's face while watching Dad Byung-hyun = my laughter button."
