The domestic animation film "King of Kings" has surpassed Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite" to become the highest-grossing Korean film in the United States.
According to the production company Mopex Studio on the 28th, "King of Kings" achieved a cumulative revenue of $54.51 million (approximately 78.7 billion won) the previous day. It surpassed the final revenue of "Parasite," which was $53.84 million (approximately 77.7 billion won).
"King of Kings" is a work that depicts the journey from the birth to the resurrection of Jesus from a child's perspective. Jang Sung-ho, the head of Mopex Studio, took on the script, direction, and production. Inspired by Charles Dickens' "The Life of Our Lord," it presents the New Testament in a way that a father explains to his son.
The voice cast of "King of Kings" includes Hollywood stars such as Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, and Forest Whitaker.
The film premiered in North America on the 11th and has steadily drawn audiences, ranking second at the box office after "Minecraft: The Movie." It also received positive reviews with an A+ rating in CinemaScore, which is based on audience ratings.
