Go Youn-jung finally confessed.

In the fifth episode of the tvN weekend drama 'Resident Playbook' (creator Shin Won-ho, Lee Woo-jung / director Lee Min-soo / script Kim Song-hee / planning CJ ENM Studios / produced by Egg Is Coming), which aired yesterday (26th), the self-confession of O Yi-young (played by Go Youn-jung) for the guardian facing the saddest separation moved the hearts of viewers.

As a result, the viewer rating for the fifth episode recorded an average of 6.1% and a peak of 7.2% based on households in the metropolitan area, breaking its own record and ranking first among all channels in the same time slot. In the 2049 male and female target audience ratings, the average in the metropolitan area was 2.7% and the peak was 3.4%, while the national average was 2.6% and the peak was 3.2%, securing first place among all channels, including terrestrial broadcasters. The two patients who O Yi-young newly took on as their primary doctor were both mothers with ten-year-old children. The daughter, who had matured far beyond her years, was the guardian for her mother, who had been battling cancer for a long time, and O Yi-young grew unexpectedly close to the daughter through various conversations.

In contrast to the other mother who successfully completed her surgery, the daughter’s mother’s condition rapidly deteriorated without any chance to intervene. Although the daughter always appeared mature, it would be hard for her to accept her mother’s death. Despite Professor Jo Jun-mo’s (played by Lee Hyun-kyun) words hinting at the end, the daughter denied it with an innocent face, evoking sympathy.

To help the daughter part well from her precious person, O Yi-young conveyed her genuine comfort along with her own experiences. Though she seemed resilient, O Yi-young expressed that after losing her mother, she carried a big hole in her heart, reminiscing about her mother's voice and shedding tears alone, which moved the viewers. Additionally, 'The Man from Nowhere' Ahn Jung-won (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) provided a warm embrace, becoming a strong shield for a child who had to grow up faster than others.

While O Yi-young spent time with the young guardian, first-year resident Eom Jae-il (played by Kang Yoo-seok) was unexpectedly experiencing growing pains. While performing ultrasound examinations on patients, Eom Jae-il couldn’t trust his own judgment and sought confirmation from senior residents Ki Eun-mi (played by Lee Do-hye) and Cha Da-hye (played by Hong Na-hyun) each time.

Unlike Eom Jae-il, who was excited to have answered correctly, the workloads of the seniors piled up endlessly because they had to go back and forth in the ultrasound room. Upon hearing this, Gu Do-won (played by Jeong Jun-won) offered sharp advice that snapped Eom Jae-il back to reality. With Gu Do-won’s advice acting as a catalyst, there is curiosity about whether Eom Jae-il will improve.

Meanwhile, O Yi-young’s direct approach toward senior resident Gu Do-won gained momentum and captured attention. O Yi-young requested as a birthday gift that Gu Do-won promise to respond “yes” to anything she said until the elevator reached his home. Even while saying “yes” to the suggestion to eat together and watch a movie, Gu Do-won set various conditions, making O Yi-young’s feelings fluctuate between heaven and hell.

As they got closer to home, O Yi-young, feeling anxious, eventually surprised Gu Do-won with a direct confession of, “Is it okay if I like you?” After a brief hesitation, Gu Do-won replied “yes” but drew a line by saying, “If you want to become uncomfortable with me, then go ahead.” How O Yi-young will respond to Gu Do-won’s rejection has heightened attention on the evolution of their relationship.

The story of young professionals experiencing growing pains in love and work continues in the sixth episode of the tvN weekend drama 'Resident Playbook,' which will air tonight (27th) at 9:20 p.m.
