Actor Kim Jae-wook returns with the Netflix series "Dear Hongrang."
On the 23rd, the magazine "Singles" released a visual photo shoot featuring Kim Jae-wook. In the photo shoot, Kim Jae-wook showcased various styling, exuding a sophisticated atmosphere.
The Netflix series "Dear Hongrang" is a mystery melodrama depicting the unknown emotions that blossom between Hongrang, the son of the largest merchant in Joseon, who returns after 12 years with no memory, and his half-sister Jai, who is the only one doubting his true identity. Kim Jae-wook plays the role of "Hanpyeong Daegun," a renowned artist and painter with the highest aesthetic sensibility in Joseon, as well as a brother of the king.
Kim Jae-wook noted, "In South Korea, the title is 'Dear Hongrang,' and in English, it's 'Dear Hongrang.' Hongrang is the name of the male lead, and the drama encompasses all the mystery, suspense, and romance surrounding that character. I have worked with director Kim Hong-sun many times before, and since he offered me a great character, I said yes without hesitation," sharing the behind-the-scenes story of his participation.
When asked whether he prefers to fully prepare before going on set or values the on-site atmosphere like in a photo shoot, Kim Jae-wook said, "That depends on the work. In the case of 'Dear Hongrang,' it was a production that had to be prepared for. Since it's a historical drama, I couldn’t go on set without preparation."
When asked if the opposite case was for the Netflix series "Melomovie," Kim Jae-wook said, "I tried to relax as much as possible. Both in terms of appearance and when expressing the character, I focused on letting go of my ambitions. I felt that Go-jun is not a character that gets completed just by my portrayal. I aimed to express Go-jun well by blending into the atmosphere beyond what I can do."
In "Melomovie," Kim Jae-wook portrayed a role different from those he had previously played. He revealed, "Actually, I can't handle multiple tasks at once. When I was offered 'Melomovie,' I had just started filming 'Dear Hongrang' and was also beginning rehearsals for the musical 'The Old Woman with the Knife.' Then the screenplay for 'Melomovie' came in. I thought, 'It would be great to receive a proposal for such a character,' so I had no choice but to accept. It was a character I had been waiting for so long. I felt that if I missed this opportunity, it might never come again, so I just decided to go for it, whatever it takes."
Finally, when asked if there are any aspects he wants to showcase more as an actor, Kim Jae-wook expressed, "I want to try genuine action acting. But it seems a bit late already. I'm starting to feel pain here and there. So I want to try before it gets any later. And I also want to try dense melodramatic acting. Please be sure to write this down (laughs)," revealing his passion for acting.
