In 'Dad and Me,' Lee Gun-joo explained why he refused to meet his mother 15 years ago.
The show aired on TV Chosun on the 22nd.
On this day, Lee Gun-joo, who gathered the courage to meet his mother, was portrayed. Upon arriving in Gangwon Province, he was seen in contemplation, saying, "I needed to sort out my thoughts." Notably, a video was shown of Lee Gun-joo rejecting a meeting attempt made through the broadcast 15 years ago. Lee Gun-joo said, "Even if my mother recognizes me, I think I wouldn’t recognize her. If I didn't want to meet her 15 years ago, I'm worried that now she might not want to meet me either." He continued, "If that's my mother's wish, I respect that," adding, "Because I felt the same way, I believe my mother must have thought the same 15 years ago." In response, Lee Seung-yeon noted, "Parents always want to see their children."
Fortunately, his mother showed up, and they reunited after 44 years. His mother first took care of meals and health, sharing ordinary greetings, and she shed tears at the small but long-awaited greetings. Then, regarding what she wanted to say to her son, his mother said, "Thank you for growing up beautifully. I have never forgotten you in my heart," and added, "I met you through TV, crying and laughing while thinking of you." His mother expressed, "It feels like my heart is being torn apart; I wondered what you think of me," and continued, "I could think, 'I was abandoned,' but that's not the case," as she brought tears to her eyes, saying, "How much must I have resented my mother?"
Lee Gun-joo also honestly talked about having rejected his mother's request to appear on a broadcast 15 years ago. He mentioned that comments he heard through the production team, like "Gun-joo is doing well financially?" were hurtful at the time, but he has come to understand that these words might have been distorted.
In response, his mother was startled, saying, "I was taken aback by that comment; I never said anything like that." Lee Gun-joo explained, "If I had asked about the distortion now, I would have reacted differently, but back then, I felt rebellious due to my youthful ignorance and fear. I’m sorry," while resolving a misunderstanding after 15 years and saying, "I'm glad I met my mother; I wonder why I only refused all this time. I feel it was good just to clear up the misunderstanding." His mother responded, "I hope Gun-joo clears up any misunderstandings. I understand everything."
