Actor Kim Hee-jung showcased a heavy presence until the end of 'Heo's Diner,' achieving a happy ending.
Kim Hee-jung played the role of a mother of Bong Eun-sil (played by Choo So-jung) as the owner of a place without a sign in the Why Not Media drama 'Heo's Diner' (directed by Oh Hwan-min and Kim Kyung-eun, written by Seong So-hyun). 'Heo's Diner' is a fantasy comedy romance drama that unfolds as Heo Gyun (played by Sioumin), a problematic figure from the Joseon Dynasty, inadvertently runs a restaurant after moving to modern times 400 years later. The final episode was released on the 22nd (yesterday).
In a previous episode, Eun-sil's mother had a tragic accident after meeting the dark chef Lee Hyuk (played by Lee Se-on) who was targeting the diner and fell down the stairs.
Afterward, Eun-sil's mother couldn't operate the diner and spent a long time in a comatose state, but miraculously awakened in the final episode. As she opened her eyes, she comforted her daughter Eun-sil, who was grieving, by gently stroking her hand. Kim Hee-jung enhanced the emotional depth of the character through nuanced performances that conveyed complex feelings without the need for dialogue.
After recovering quickly, Eun-sil's mother began to run 'Heo's Diner' again with her daughter Eun-sil. Just as she did with Heo Gyun and everyone else, she maintained her belief that "even if we can't earn much money, treating hungry people to a warm meal is a meritorious act" and returned to her normal life. Kim Hee-jung completed the character, depicting Eun-sil's mother's warm personality and the weight of life with her distinctive attention to detail.
Additionally, Kim Hee-jung demonstrated natural and stable synergy with actors from various generations, including Sioumin, Choo So-jung, and Lee Se-on, reaffirming her status as a 'master of acting chemistry.' Through performances infused with the essence of life, Kim Hee-jung enriched the overall emotional density of the drama, leaving a lasting impression. It will be intriguing to see what projects Kim Hee-jung will take on next to engage viewers.
'Heo's Diner,' in which the seasoned actor Kim Hee-jung performed as a key player, is available for streaming all episodes on Netflix, Wavve, Watcha, and Tving.
