An unprecedented hip-hop group is coming.
Mnet "Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Pop Princess" (hereafter "Hip Pop Princess") is conducting a recruitment for applicants aiming for its first broadcast in October.
"Hip Pop Princess" (HIP POP Princess) is a new season of the first female rapper survival program, Mnet's "Unpretty Rapstar," which first premiered in 2015. Female rappers such as Jeon So-yeon, Chita, and Heize gained recognition through "Unpretty Rapstar," establishing itself as a significant gateway for rising rappers. Interest in the newly revamped "Hip Pop Princess," marking its return after about nine years since "Unpretty Rapstar 3" in 2016, is already soaring.
If "Unpretty Rapstar" discovered skilled rappers, "Hip Pop Princess" aims to create a hip-hop group. In "Hip Pop Princess," participants will actively engage in songwriting, composing, choreography, and other creative realms, completing missions that express their unique colors. Discovering participants like gems and observing their growth as artists through self-producing missions will likely become a focal point unique to "Hip Pop Princess."
The scale has also expanded. "Hip Pop Princess," a project born from a Korea-Japan collaboration, is preparing for its fall broadcast based in Korea. With K-POP and J-POP converging, it is expected to achieve authentic cultural communication that penetrates the cultural codes of both countries, encompassing not only music but also fashion and lifestyle. Additionally, both the production team of "Unpretty Rapstar" and "Street Woman Fighter" will join forces to amplify synergy, accelerating efforts to discover "hexagonal" talents skilled in both hip-hop and dance.
Those born before January 1, 2012, regardless of nationality, can apply for "Hip Pop Princess," which marks the beginning of a hip-hop group that has never existed before. The application period is from today (23rd) until June 30, Korean time, and will be conducted through online submission using the QR code from the recruitment teaser video. Applications through Mnet Plus will be available starting April 30.
The production team noted, "The 'Hip Pop Princess' project, aimed to air in October this year, is a project to create the rap version of IZ*ONE." They added, "We are preparing it with great care, so please show your support and interest."
"Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Pop Princess" is scheduled for its first broadcast in October.
