Broadcaster Hyun-young has become embroiled in a controversy known as the 'gift item reseller' issue.

Recently, Hyun-young released a video introducing the Dior brand's '2025 Spring Ritual Kit,' revealing that the kit, which includes a pouch and four miniature perfumes, is being sold for 85,000 won, sparking controversy.

In the video, Hyun-young showcased the pouch marked with the Dior logo, promoting it by saying, "You can purchase this separately for 85,000 won," targeting customers with amenities provided. In reality, these are genuine amenities given only to customers who purchase a certain amount at Dior stores. She further emphasized that this is a genuine item from Dior, adorned with a QR code, and suggested styling tips on using the pouch with a chain as a bag.

However, the problem is that these products are not officially sold items from the brand, but rather 'gift items' given for free to purchasing customers. Hyun-young noted, "When you open this, you will find four miniature items inside." The miniatures were also originally provided as gift items by Dior to customers, and Hyun-young promoted it by stating that it was equivalent to a gift worth 650,000 won for customers who made purchases of that amount, reiterating, "It's just a bag. Isn't it so pretty?"

In response, some have criticized that it is inappropriate for famous influencers or entertainers to participate in the distribution method of gift items that could undermine brand image and consumer trust. There are growing concerns about products provided to consumers in a manner not associated with official sales routes being utilized for commercial purposes.

In this regard, netizens commented, "Isn’t it illegal to sell gift items?" to which Hyun-young replied, "It is not illegal." Nevertheless, criticism continues to arise. The fact that Hyun-young is an entertainer actively involved in variety shows has drawn even more criticism. Some point out that it is inappropriate for someone well-known to the public, who holds considerable influence, to actively participate in 'reselling' activities. As a public figure, she cannot escape criticism for potentially causing negative effects on others through such inappropriate actions.

In this context, discussions among netizens continue, stating, "Utilizing luxury brands for marketing strategies," and "Regardless of legality, it is absurd for a celebrity to sell gift items to the public."
