The presence of SHINee's Choi Min-ho stands out in the play "Rendezvous."
Choi Min-ho's recent grants in the play "Rendezvous" (written and directed by Yossef K. Junghan) tell the story of scientist "Tae-seob," who is immersed in rocket development, and "Ji-hee" (played by Kim Ha-ri), who seeks freedom through dance and confronts their wounds and emotions through a chance meeting. It is a two-person play, and the experimental stage direction and the performances of the actors are garnering attention.
In this piece, Choi Min-ho plays the role of Tae-seob, a character who appears cold and rational on the outside but harbors past wounds and loneliness on the inside, creating a complex character that leaves a strong impression on the audience.
Especially, Choi Min-ho leads the process of healing each other's wounds from their breathtaking first encounter, involving the daughter of the regular jajangmyeon restaurant "Ji-hee," for about 100 minutes without exiting the stage and excellently embodies the fierce range of emotions from joy and anger to anxiety, loneliness, and sadness.
Moreover, in scenes that express emotional states through gaze, eye contact, and movement without dialogue, his nuanced and restrained performance creates a deep sense of immersion. Additionally, in the unique structure resembling a fashion show runway, with a treadmill installed in the center, he maintains eye contact with the audience, allowing for a close connection that conveys internal changes in a more vivid and authentic manner.
Proving his active engagement, Choi Min-ho has recorded sold-out performances for every show, receiving enthusiastic responses. Having also garnered good reactions in his stable performance in the previously showcased play "Waiting for Godot," anticipation is high for his upcoming diverse activities.
"Rendezvous" can be seen at the Arts Center's Freedom Theatre until May 11.
