Broadcaster Hyun-young clarified that there is a misunderstanding amid the controversy over reselling gifts provided by a luxury brand.
Last month, Hyun-young posted a video on her social media stating, "Dior 25th Spring Ritual Kit, at Shinsegae Department Store and Lotte Department Store in Korea, a pouch is given to customers who purchase for 170,000 won (only the pouch without the 4 types) and it is currently a sold-out item."
Hyun-young explained, "This is a product given as an amenity to customers who purchase a lot at Dior. You can separately purchase this for 85,000 won." The pouch is a gift provided when spending over 170,000 won at the official Dior store, and Hyun-young noted, "It is a genuine Dior product. There is also a QR code. The pouch is really beautiful, isn't it? But I will tell you how to make it into a bag. If you use it that way, it will be really pretty when you wear it with jeans and a white T-shirt or shorts during spring and summer trips."
Hyun-young added, "If you open this, it contains 4 miniature types." She continued, "You have to purchase 120,000 won each for one type, totaling 480,000 won, to qualify for the gift. It is a product equivalent to the gift received by customers who spend a total of 650,000 won."
In response, some netizens raised suspicions, questioning whether it was "illegal" to sell the gift items provided for free at a premium price of 85,000 won. In response, Hyun-young said, "No, it is not," but as a broadcaster with influence, the controversy is growing.
On the 22nd, Hyun-young told OSEN in a phone call, "After checking through a middleman, the products indeed came through a formal customs route. There are middlemen who import foreign products into Korea, and they distribute through their sales networks. Customers who purchase from our site enter their personal customs number to buy. It seems there is a misunderstanding that I am reselling luxury brand gifts."
Meanwhile, Hyun-young is currently operating a shopping mall in addition to her broadcasting career and is active as a businesswoman. Notably, her shopping mall reportedly recorded sales of over 8 billion won in the second half of 2019, gaining attention.
