On the 22nd, the Cinecube art theater announced that it will hold a special exhibition titled '25 Years with Kore-eda' to celebrate its 25th anniversary and that Kore-eda will visit Korea for this special exhibition. In particular, the talk events with special guests that Kore-eda will be involved in are garnering great interest.
Hirokazu Kore-eda is the director who has attracted the most audiences at Cinecube over the past 25 years, having released 14 of his films there since 'Wonderful Life', which premiered as a commemoration of Cinecube's 1st anniversary in 2001. Furthermore, T-Cast, which operates Cinecube, has imported and distributed a total of six films by director Hirokazu Kore-eda, including 'Shoplifters', 'Like Father, Like Son', and 'The Third Murder', making a significant contribution to introducing his work to Korean audiences. Kore-eda has expressed a particular affection for Cinecube by visiting whenever he comes to Korea, and he is expected to meet with audiences through various events during this special exhibition.
The 'special talk' and 'masterclass' announced alongside the news of his visit have sold out as soon as reservations opened, and a special Cine Talk has also been confirmed for the last day of his visit, raising expectations for another reservation battle. On May 1, following the screening of 'Shoplifters', a Cine Talk featuring director Hirokazu Kore-eda, actor Song Kang-ho, and actress Lee Joo-young will take place. This Cine Talk, which is generating excitement, will discuss various works of director Kore-eda, including the Palme d'Or-winning 'Shoplifters', acclaimed for its essence in Kore-eda's cinema. Actor Song Kang-ho, who won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for 'Broker', and actress Lee Joo-young, who delivered an impressive performance in 'Broker', will be present. The event will be hosted by Kim Se-yoon, a writer from 'MBC FM Film Music'.
On the first day of his visit, on the 29th, the 'Special Talk: The Reasons We Love the Theater' will be held at Cinecube, featuring the renowned director Hirokazu Kore-eda and actor Lee Dong-hwi, who worked together in the film 'Broker' as special guests. The event will be moderated by Kim Somi, a reporter from 'Cine 21'. This Special Talk, the first event of Kore-eda's visit, is expected to become a meaningful opportunity to discuss the significance of theaters and art houses with film-loving audiences. The following day, a masterclass with director Hirokazu Kore-eda is scheduled. Celebrating his 30th anniversary as a film director this year, the masterclass will focus on his directorial theories and body of work, featuring director Yoon Ga-eun, whose films 'Our Bodies' and 'Our Home' have received critical acclaim. Known as a passionate fan of director Hirokazu Kore-eda, Yoon Ga-eun will engage Kore-eda in a discussion about film direction, and it is anticipated that 50 students from film-related departments aspiring to become directors will be specially invited to this significant event.
