Two years have passed since the passing of Choo Sung Hoon's father, Mr. Choo Gye Yi.
Mr. Choo Gye Yi, Choo Sung Hoon's father, suddenly passed away from a heart attack on April 18, 2023.
At that time, Choo Sung Hoon's agency, Bonbu Entertainment, stated, "Choo Sung Hoon's father, Mr. Choo Gye Yi, passed away today at the age of 73. Choo Sung Hoon returned to Japan as soon as he received the news in Korea."
The agency also added, "The funeral will be held quietly with family and relatives," and extended their heartfelt condolences to Choo Sung Hoon and his family.
Earlier, Choo Sung Hoon appeared on the KBS2 entertainment program "The Return of Superman" with his family, receiving much love from domestic fans. Choo Sung Hoon's father, like his son Choo Sung Hoon, was also a former judo player and drew attention by appearing on the broadcast as a strict father but a warm grandfather in front of his granddaughter.
Later, Choo Sung Hoon expressed his feelings on his social media, saying, "My father, my superhero," in a lengthy post. He said, "He was kind, strong, knowledgeable, and taught me a lot. But he was also a very strict father. When I did something wrong as a child, I was punished severely. However, I never hated my father. Because he is my superhero. That father suddenly passed away today."
He continued, "I wanted to talk more and there were so many things you had to teach me. We never even had the chance to drink together. There are so many things I wanted to do with you. Now that things are starting to go well, I wanted to travel around with you and enjoy delicious food together."
He reminisced, saying, "In life, when the time comes to make important choices, just as my father taught me, always choose the difficult path! That is the way to success! I will engrave that lesson in my heart and live diligently. The next time we meet, I want to play golf, which my father loves, and drink together."
Choo Sung Hoon's wife, Yano Shiho, also posted a photo of her in-laws and their daughter on social media, starting with, "The whole family said farewell to my father-in-law for the last time."
He said, "Life is unpredictable; therefore, it is important to listen well to people's stories, think, and act in the present moment. My father taught me the importance of taking immediate action if you have something you want to think about or do."
He added, "I will never forget the kindness with which my father always embraced me. I want to carry the memories of the time we spent together in my heart and live while moving forward." He paid tribute to the deceased.
